Job Description
Role Overview:
The Brookfield Capital Solutions team is responsible for a variety of deal and market-related functions in support of the Credit platform. Capital Solutions interfaces with members of Brookfield’s credit team, key finance and business leaders, portfolio company management and outside service providers (banks, other financial institutions, lenders, investors, credit rating agencies, accounting, and legal advisors).
Reporting to the Vice President, Capital Solutions. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in leveraged finance, loan or bond capital markets, loan negotiation, or financial sponsors role at an investment bank or lending platform. Backgrounds with similar skill sets that have exposure to LBO and underwritten leveraged financings will also be considered – transaction advisory, investment banking, trading desk research, distressed investing, CLO/BDC, etc.
Day-to-day, the associate will assist the team in a variety of core capital markets responsibilities, including: market research / deal-specific intel (including deal comps), providing structuring guidance to deal teams (RFPs, term sheets, credit agreements, intercreditor, etc.), supporting syndication processes (including working with investment banks, law firms, and prospective investors). In summary, the analyst/associate will be intimately involved in various aspects of deal structuring, deal execution, relationship management, and various ad hoc projects.
Responsibilities:
Deal Execution

Provide support across the full spectrum of origination, underwriting and distribution.

Lead debt modeling (e.g., for underwriting)
-
Create deal materials (e.g., debt models and credit memo) with inputs from deal teams and capital solutions leadership.
Distribution
-
Assist in managing bank and investor relationships in deals in which Brookfield is acting as a participant and represents Brookfield allocation.

Over time build relationships with potential buyers of debt to which Brookfield will eventually place

Understand market conditions on “what can be done.”

Support syndication activities by maintaining and updating investor lists, sharing relevant information with investors.
Portfolio Management

Monitor credit instruments warehoused and held.

Create a framework to measure/manage maintain the appropriate level of exposure across asset classes and risk.

Monitor company and relevant market conditions in to effectively manage balance sheet and losses / gains.
Data Management
-
Assist in creation of an investor database with key contacts, execution capabilities, current commitments across BPEG, etc.

Track interactions with investors, bank, and direct lender contacts.

Manage capital markets deal pipeline.

Record fees paid and syndicate economics for several types of transactions.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with a major in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related financial discipline with an outstanding record of academic achievement

2+ years of related experience

Leveraged loan and high yield experience preferred at a credit fund, finance company, commercial or investment bank, hedge fund, BDC or mezzanine fund.

Formal credit training preferred.

Ability to effectively communicate with senior management internally and externally.
