Job DescriptionThe Application IT Developer IV analyzes, models, writes/modifies, and supports software source code that enables business capabilities, following established Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes. They provide primary legacy platform support (COBOL on HP3000) that keeps high-volume file, print, and PDF production running reliably, while supporting Vericast’s transition away from HP3000 by answering process/COBOL job questions for migration teams and, where skills align, assisting with related ETL/Python-based migration development.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
EXPERIENCE
4+ years with Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years work experience; hands-on COBOL/HP3000 experience supporting file-based, high-volume production environments strongly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Required Technical Skills:
- Strong COBOL programming expertise on HP3000.
- Experience with HP3000 IMAGE databases.
- Proficiency with Robelle tools (SuperTool, Qedit, MPEX).
- Solid JCL knowledge for batch processing, automation, and production workflows.
- Experience using ad hoc query tools for data analysis and validation.
- Working knowledge of POSIX/Apache in HP3000 or hybrid environments.
- Proven support of print production and file-based processing workflows; familiarity with banking/retail/marketing campaign contexts.
- Awareness of postal software/tools (e.g., BCC, Code1) and postal compliance/reporting.
Desired / Plus Skills:
- Experience with ETL tools or data integration frameworks (designing mappings, orchestration, job monitoring).
- Python for data parsing, transformation, reconciliation, and automation; familiarity with packaging and logging for production use. (nice to have)
- Experience in hybrid legacy/modern environments and an appetite to learn new technologies as part of platform modernization.
- Strong documentation/knowledge-sharing to reduce single points of failure and provide PTO coverage.
Professional Skills:
- Excellent troubleshooting and data analysis; attention to detail in deadline-driven, high-volume production.
- Clear communication and facilitation across technical/business teams; ability to translate legacy logic into modern design language.
EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED
HP3000, IMAGE, Robelle (SuperTool, Qedit, MPEX), ad hoc query tools; JCL/batch schedulers; version control; ticketing/knowledge tools; ETL toolsets.
COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS
Communicates directly with internal and external customers. Partners with Product Development and Print Production to align logic to configured product/campaign requirements and ensure accurate, timely delivery.
Additional InformationBase salary: $77,000-$100,000
The ultimate compensation offered for the position will depend upon several factors such as skill level, cost of living, experience, and responsibilities.
