Navan is looking for a Senior Android Engineer to design, build, and enhance our mobile applications in the business expense management space.
As a key contributor, you will work closely with our international team of engineers and domain experts to build new features and improve our product. We are looking for engineers who can deliver high-quality work, can lead complex projects and contribute to clear technical direction.
Required qualifications:- 5+ years of experience developing high-quality Android applications.
- Strong understanding of the full app development lifecycle.
- Proficiency in Kotlin and building user interfaces with Jetpack Compose.
- Solid understanding of the Android SDK:
- App components (Activities, Services, receivers, providers) and how they fit together.
- How the Android applications you develop fit into the Android OS lifecycle: notifications, deep links, battery modes, network state, persisting data, and permissions.
- Performance tuning and optimization.
- Gradle builds and modules.
- Strong understanding of concurrency practices and experience working with coroutines;
- Must be capable of making architectural judgment calls based on real data and requirements.
- Working knowledge of MVVM and standard multi-tier architecture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and publishing to the Play Store.
- Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, with a focus on delivering testable, scalable, and maintainable code.
- Experience using AI / LLM tools in day-to-day development, including how to keep quality, review standards, and security intact when you use them.
- Experience with modern Android frameworks such as Dagger/Hilt and OkHttp/Retrofit,
- Experience building automated test suites with Espresso/kakao and a clear view of what belongs in unit, integration, and UI tests.
- Familiarity with:
- Accessibility best practices for mobile applications.
- OAuth, mobile app authentication, and data safety.
- Material Design principles, mobile UX practices, and patterns.
- Design, build, and ship Android features in a large production app;
- Contribute to Android infrastructure so delivery stays fast and reliable.
- Review code, give feedback to other developers, and write technical documentation to improve coding practices and code quality.
- Lead development initiatives, whether by introducing new technologies or by raising the bar for existing code, practices, or architecture.
- Take part in decisions with peers and stakeholders on technology, design, and product direction.
- Triage product and application issues, and respond quickly to customer problems.
