THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Manager, Investment Accounting, the Senior Analyst is responsible for timely, complete, and accurate accounting for pooled fund and segregated investments held by BCI clients. This requires a good understanding of clients, investments, structures, and processes as well as analysis of emerging investments and structures. 

The Senior Analyst maintains and performs internal controls effectively; this includes the application of generally accepted accounting principles, industry standards, and professional judgment. The Senior Analyst works in a team environment and may assist staff within the department or in other departments regarding accounting treatment, investment valuations, tax issues, problem resolution, decisions, or recommendations where appropriate.  

The Senior Analyst may provide direction to junior staff and assist with training new staff. Thorough knowledge of net asset valuation methodology, financial accounting, and financial reporting practices/requirements for both investments and investment structures is key. The Senior Analyst works collaboratively to identify and resolve issues. 

WHAT YOU BRING

Must have:

  • University degree or diploma in a related field 

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent 

  • 2-3 years accounting experience 

  • Experience in investment/fund accounting 

  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and organizational skills, and attention to detail 

  • The ability to proactively look for ways to increase efficiencies in how work is performed 

  • Advanced level Excel skills and current experience with an industry standard accounting platform 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of IFRS 

  • Experience with SimCorp Dimension 

  • Experience with data analytics and storytelling utilizing visualization tools 

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Finance department is part of BCI Operations and is responsible for investment and corporate accounting, valuations, as well as financial statements and financial reporting to our clients. The team also leads BCI’s budgeting process, tax structuring and tax compliance, finance client engagement, finance operations, procurement, and investment performance and analytics. Working with our internal business partners, auditors and external advisors, the Finance department strives to be a trusted advisor to our internal and external clients by providing timely, accurate, and relevant financial information and analysis.  

Investment Accounting is responsible for the daily validation of net asset value for investment structures across all asset classes including Public Markets, Private Credit, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, Private Equity, and Real Estate. This validation includes daily reconciliation of key financial data to third parties and performance of internal controls over financial records. The branch also manages the accounting activities of investments and investment structures for our asset classes and clients. Annually the branch supports the valuation process for private market investments, the production of financial statements for audit and tax filing purposes, the external audit of internal controls, and interactions with external auditors.  

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO

  • Completes net asset valuation and accounting for pooled funds and performs reconciliations for segregated investments in accordance with procedures and internal control requirements  

  • Works collaboratively to identify and resolve complex issues regarding the accounting for investments and structures, both within pooled funds and on a segregated basis 

  • Analyzes trends and changes in investments and investment structures, to support management analysis for internal and external clients 

  • Collaborates with other teams to prepare working papers for year-end financial statements for pooled funds and tax filings, and financial information for regulators and clients in accordance with policies and established standards 

  • Provides support for valuation of asset classes 

  • Completes year end pooled fund distributions and other tax calculations/information in accordance with established procedures

  • Acts as subject matter expert in working with vendors, teams, and departments to develop requirements and test solutions within the SimCorp Dimension testing and production environments 

  • Maintains strong knowledge of clients and asset classes including investment objectives, reporting requirements, investment processes, instruments and structures 

  • Maintains strong knowledge of finance concepts, procedures, reporting and the end-to-end processes and technologies that support the finance function 

  • Efficiently and effectively develops, maintains and continuously improves financial solutions and processes aligned to client and asset class objectives 

  • Transforms financial information into value-added business intelligence and reports for clients and asset classes through comprehensive analysis and integration of quantitative and qualitative information 

  • Identifies and addresses risks and ensures all reporting and processes meet the audit and internal control framework and adhere to compliance and risk management best practices 

  • Provides training and assistance to other team members as required 

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Work from our downtown Victoria office. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1-day a week.  

SALARY RANGE 

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off. 

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $87,000-$105,000. 

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
