The Role

Assortment Modeling Analyst

Job Summary

The Analyst, Assortment Modeling (TMOD) will report to the Manager, Assortment Modeling (DMOD). will work with Category Manager and Assortment Planners to properly assort NAPA Independently Owned Stores and/or NAPA Company Owned Stores and Distribution Centers.

The Analyst (TMOD) provides insight and recommendations on assortment mix to help maximize sales while balancing inventory productivity. To accomplish these goals, the TMOD will consider market demand signals, category/assortment requirements, life cycle management & line structure rules. The Analyst (TMOD) will be required to use tools including Power BI, Qlik, Excel and predictive analytics using NAPA proprietary tools. The Analyst (TMOD) will review store assortments, adjust reflecting changing market and customer needs, and build inventory recommendations for stores and distribution centers based on unique market characteristics The Analyst (TMOD) will also be expected to be an active participant in helping build future reporting and tools that will lead to more informed assortment choices.

The successful individual will establish themselves as an assortment, inventory modeling and supply chain subject matter expert working directly with NAPA’s DC and field teams, company owned store leaders and independent owners to grow sales and build productive relationships. This highly visible role requires a high level of communication skill, organizational agility and financial discipline.

Key Performance Metrics:

  • Company Owned and Independent Store Sales · Inventory productivity including increasing inventory turnover while reducing underperforming inventory and returns · Expense reduction associated with excess returns

Responsibilities

  • Analytics (60%)
  • Track and understand store sales, profit and inventory turnover performance at the Category level for assigned locations. This understanding will help inform discussions with field leadership and ISO partners to model better assortments.
  • Provide analytics to COS and ISO store leaders that clearly articulate assortment gaps in each location (or group of locations). Utilize data from broader groups of stores (Market, DC, Division, etc) to help determine these recommendations.
  • Utilize existing and future reporting to target returns of E-F stratified inventory from stores. Models in best-selling SKUs not currently stocked by store but within aligned line structure and life cycle ranges. Additionally, partnering closely with Category, understand new product availability and help determine stocking strategy by location.
  • Work with field leadership, ISOs, Assortment Planners and IPR to balance breadth and depth of inventory needs.
  • Relationship Management and Execution (40%)
  • As a key member of the Assortment Planning & Modeling team the Analyst (TMOD) will often be the face of the organization to our COS and ISO partners. It is critical that the Analyst (TMOD) is a positive, relatable and reliable source of fantastic insight and recommendations to these partners. Ability to build trust and deliver for our partners is critical.
  • The Analyst (TMOD) will execute the current quarterly order/return cycle for assigned stores. Additionally, the Analyst (TMOD) is expected to contribute to process improvements in this area via collaboration with Managers (DMOD) and Sr Director, Assortment Planning & Modeling.
  • As a subject matter expert, the Analyst (TMOD) is expected to actively participate and communicate with our technology partners on improvements that can be made to our proprietary modeling tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Analytics, or equivalent experience required
  • 3+ years of Analytics and Process Improvement experience required
  • Possesses the following technical proficiencies:
  • Very strong analytical skills, highly competent using tools such as Excel, Power BI and Qlik
  • Prior knowledge of merchandising and assortment modeling applications/tools preferred
  • Possesses strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills including the ability to analyze data and present findings in a clear, concise way to customers, leaders and peers (PowerPoint skills are a must)
  • Ability to manage complex analytical projects while demonstrating a positive, collaborative approach with fellow associates across the organization
  • High degree of business acumen with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization, balancing multiple stakeholder imperatives

Physical Demands / Working Environment

  • Work performed in a typical office environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed to visit company locations.
