The Accounting Senior Manager will be part of the athenahealth corporate accounting team and will directly oversee the accounting function of our established Chennai based internal team as well as the outsourced consulting partner that provides the accounting services for our India based entity. This position will work closely with the US based accounting team and reports to the Accounting Director in the US.

You have a proven ability to lead an effective team, work deep in the details while also providing direct reports with continuous coaching and development opportunities for growth. You are an action-oriented planner who takes initiative and optimizes team capacity by leveraging the power of process. You have strong knowledge of technical accounting concepts under both US GAAP and Ind AS.

The general ledger team drives the month end close process. We collaborate with teams in the Finance organization including tax, FP&A and internal audit. Additionally, we work closely with external auditors for financial statement audits. On a monthly basis we perform detailed P&L and Balance Sheet flux reviews that are presented to the Controller. We are a well-established team that plays a critical role in a fast-paced environment. While our primary focus is around the monthly close process, the team is also heavily involved in IT process improvements, management reporting and ad hoc projects.


Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS/IAS accounting standards and various local GAAP statutory filings. Act as a liaison with local auditors.
  • Oversee accounting operations and work prepared by outsourced consulting partner for our India based entity,
  • Maintain the internal control environment in the Company’s operations for compliance with corporate policies as well as SOX requirements.
  • Oversee month-end close tasks prepared by the India GL team as it relates to US entity
  • Review journal entries, flux explanations and balance sheet reconciliations within a timely manner.
  • Assist with day-to-day problem solving and be a reliable, approachable resource. Escalate questions and concerns appropriately.
  • Provide coaching, issue escalation, career development, and succession planning.
  • Develop, align, and execute the team vision for growth. Perform annual feedback and compensation reviews for team members.
  • Identify opportunities to drive process improvement and automation.
  • Partner with the US manager group on a weekly basis to align and execute on GL team deliverables and deadlines.
  • Maintain India GL team calendar to effectively balance demand for deliverables and team capacity.

Qualifications

  • Qualified chartered accountant with 7+ years of professional accounting experience, including at least 3 years with big four accounting firm
  • 4+ years of managing a team including recruiting, training, and development
  • Experience working directly for a US or EU based company in a shared services model or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting under US GAAP and Ind AS, and experience with financial reporting and local India compliance requirements
  • Acts with the highest integrity and develops trusting relationships across seniority levels and teams
  • Ability to balance a heavy workload, prioritize work appropriately, and work well under pressure
  • Communicates proactively and clearly with team and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, ability to analyze data, develop analysis, and articulate findings
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and professional skepticism
  • Able to work 2:30p-11:30pm IST
