We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant-Grant Accountant that will be responsible for all accounting cycle tasks – AR/AP/Payroll and financial reporting – and pre- and post- award grant accounting. He or she will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with funders’ administrative guidelines, timely receipt of revenue, accurate submission of financial reports, A-133 Audit, and orderly closure of projects.
The ideal candidate would have experience working with smaller organizations, and at a minimum, have some grant, government contracting, or other project accounting experience. He or she should also understand internal controls and be able to ensure compliance with all controls and accounting policies. Must have strong understanding of AP (Accounts Payable), AR (Account Receivable), payroll, General Ledger reconciliation, and Grant accounting.
Please note that this role is hybrid eligible based in Arlington, VA (after the introductory period). Position will be open until filled.
Accounts payable/bill management
Manage all accounts payable and properly code to grants or programs.
Perform and support bank reconciliations process in accounting system.
Grant Finance
Prepare and submit grant invoices.
Provide basic financial oversight for funds related to grant projects.
Monitor/track the status of each program through its program life cycle.
Work with grant managers and advise management team on preparing grant budgets for proposals. Once awarded, monitor expenses for allowable uses of grant funds.
Prepare budget-to-actual grant spending reports.
Cash and cash receipts
Create and apply payments to grant and other customer invoices
Support AP and AR-related tasks.
Monthly Journal Entries and Close Activities
Maintain asset and depreciation schedule and post monthly depreciation.
Perform month-end allocation, and revenue recognition tasks in accounting system.
Reporting
Prepare monthly report packages.
Audit
Act as point of contact for annual audits.
Five or more years of accounting experience, with a minimum of two years in a nonprofit or government setting, with nonprofit and grant experience preferred.
B.A. degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience with Workday Financials
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and the ability to reconcile large transactional files (power queries, pivot tables and vlookup experience preferred).
Provide timely responses to internal business units for general and grant related inquiries.
Compensation/Total Rewards
The salary range for this position is $65,000- $75,000.
