As the Senior Accountant, you will manage the full accounting process end-to-end, leveraging your knowledge of accounting principles. You will ensure compliance, support review, analyze and interpret financial reports and share insights to support business decisions.

You are a team player, collaborating with our global Finance team, advocating best practices and recommending ways to continuously improve our workflow. You are dynamic in a fast-paced environment while keeping your attention to detail and ready to jump in to solve problems to support delivering our business objectives. This role will report to the Head of Finance, Japan.

Responsibilities

Month-end and year-end closing;

  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals and prepayments

  • Ensure timely recording and process for vendor/supplier payments

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and balance sheet schedules

  • Produce month-end management reports and variance analysis against budgets and forecasts

  • Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow

Financial reporting and compliance;

  • Assist in preparation of statutory financial statements and liaise with external auditors

  • Ensure compliance with local government standards, tax legislation and internal controls

  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation

  • Work with external tax specialists to prepare corporate income tax, consumption tax, Fixed asset tax returns and preparation of report of payments

Budgeting and forecasting

  • Support the annual budgeting process, including capital expenditure planning

  • Update rolling forecasts and provide scenario analysis for review

Finance Operations

  • Investigate financial data issues and support timely, accurate reporting through corrective actions

  • Maintain data integrity by identifying the root-cause and implementing remedial actions

  • Assist with payroll processing and related records

Systems and process improvement

  • Drive enhancements across the ERP system and streamline accounting workflows

  • Document accounting policies and maintain up-to-date process manuals

Qualifications and Attributes

  • At least 5+ years' experience in financial reporting/operational accounting roles with a focus on processes and controls

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance; CPA/CA qualification is advantageous

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel

  • Working knowledge of accounting principles

  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP)

  • Ability to handle and analyze large datasets to derive actionable insights

  • Understanding of accounting principles, including US GAAP and J-GAAP

  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and international teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distil complex financial data for non-finance stakeholders

  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to work independently

  • Knowledge of BI tools such as Power BI will be advantageous
