Senior Accountant

Job Summary (Purpose): The Senior Accountant will support the accounting operations for a line of business at Key, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), corporate accounting policies, and internal/external audits. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other senior leaders in the line of business, Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Tax, and Risk. The Senior Accountant must be detail-oriented, possess strong technical accounting skills, and be able to thrive under deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and post general ledger accounting entries for a line of business, including revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
• Perform account reconciliations, account-level analyses, and variance analysis delivering value-added insights to help drive business results, ensure accuracy in financial data, and support decision support.
• Perform timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and reporting.
• Prepare and analyze internal financial reports, including footnotes and financial tables, in compliance with US GAAP for various stakeholders within Key.
• Provide accounting support and advice on strategic initiatives to line of business executives and finance teams.
• Conduct technical accounting research and interpret accounting guidance pertaining to Key and corporate accounting policies.
• Monitor and assess the impact of business process changes on the control environment and implement appropriate changes to ensure SOX compliance.
• Collaborate with various departments to drive growth and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Work closely with IT and Finance teams to optimize systems and data accuracy.
• Support the development and training of junior accounting staff.

Required Qualifications/Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and financial reporting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills:

• CPA or MBA.
• Experience in the banking industry or financial services, preferably with a Category 1 – 3 bank.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements specific to regional banks.
• Ability to adapt to changing regulations and implement necessary changes.

Key has implemented a role-based Mobile by Design approach to our employee workspaces, dedicating space to those whose roles require specific workspaces, while providing flexible options for roles which are less dependent on assigned workspaces and can be performed effectively in a mobile environment.  As a result, this role may be mobile or home based, which means you may work either at a home office or in a Key facility to perform your job duties. If located near a KeyBank location, the position in the future may work partially from a Key facility. If not located near a Key facility, team will consider remote workers.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $84,000 to $90,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance.
