Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will work exclusively within the CAPEX accounting area, supporting the accurate accounting, reporting, and statutory compliance of capital expenditure, fixed assets, and capital projects. We are looking for someone with strong CAPEX accounting knowledge under local GAAP, primarily IFRS. Where direct CAPEX experience is more limited, we would expect strong overall IFRS knowledge and the ability to apply this to CAPEX-related accounting matters. This role is suited to an experienced finance professional who is comfortable working with statutory reporting requirements and wants to develop further within a specialised CAPEX accounting environment.
Responsibilities
Oversee and manage all aspects of the CAPEX accounting process, including the recording, classification, and reporting of capital expenditure in line with statutory requirements and internal policies
Prepare and review statutory financial statements and disclosures related to fixed assets and capital projects, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS or local GAAP as applicable)
Provide support and guidance on statutory accounting matters related to CAPEX, including technical issues, policy developments, and process improvements
Coordinate with project managers, procurement, and operational teams to ensure CAPEX transactions are accurately captured and appropriately documented
Lead or support the CAPEX audit process, liaising with internal and external auditors to provide required schedules, explanations, and reconciliations
Drive enhancements in CAPEX reporting, controls, and systems, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve data quality
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in statutory accounting standards and ensure ongoing compliance across all CAPEX activities
Mentor and support junior finance team members, sharing expertise in statutory accounting and CAPEX management
Qualifications
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience in statutory accounting. CAPEX accounting experience is preferred but is not essential where the candidate has strong overall IFRS knowledge
Demonstrable experience in preparing statutory accounts. Experience relating to fixed assets and capital projects is preferred
Strong CAPEX accounting knowledge under local GAAP, primarily IFRS, or strong overall IFRS knowledge with the ability to apply it to CAPEX-related accounting matters
Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
Advanced proficiency in Oracle, MS Excel, and reporting tools
Experience in process improvement, audit liaison, and cross-functional collaboration
High attention to detail, integrity, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Attributes
Experience in a similar role within a large, multinational organisation
Experience working with large, complex fixed asset registers and CAPEX portfolios
Exposure to international statutory reporting requirements
