What You'll Do
Income Tax Accounting
- Prepare and initially review the quarterly and annual income tax provision, including current/deferred tax calculations and valuation allowances.
- Support the documentation and analysis of uncertain tax positions.
- Assist tax account reconciliations and roll‑forwards especially the payable proof.
- Support effective tax rate analysis, cash tax forecasting, and purchase price accounting for acquisitions including the opening tax basis balance sheet.
- Support SOX compliance by maintaining documentation for related internal controls, including process flows and narratives.
Federal and State Compliance
- Assist with tax proformas and workpapers U.S. federal consolidated Form 1120, including Form 851 affiliation schedules, Schedule M-3 and intercompany eliminations.
- Support workpapers for California combined reporting and for multistate separate and combined filings.
- Ownership of state apportionment data by entity, including receipts sourcing, payroll, and property detail, and maintaining the underlying support year over year.
- Prepare federal and state extensions, estimated tax payment calculations, and coordinate tax payments with Treasury.
- Maintain the entity filing matrix so that every legal entity in the organization is mapped to its required federal and state filing and reconcile it to the legal entity org chart, the general ledger, and the forecast each quarter.
- Own record retention policy including organizing and indexing Tax’s SharePoint site.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or equivalent required.
- Graduate degree in accounting or taxation strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of corporate income tax experience in public accounting, a corporate tax department, or a combination of both.
- Experience preparing U.S. federal and state corporate income tax returns and supporting workpapers for a consolidated group.
- Experience preparing income tax provision.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred; CPA candidate may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in healthcare and or life sciences.
- Ability to move fluently between the general ledger, consolidation systems, workpapers, tax software and reconcile between them.
- Clear written documentation of positions, calculations, and conclusions for reviewers, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Ability to explain tax results in business terms to non-tax finance professionals.
Benefits
- This position is in office with the option to be hybrid. The office is located at 1668 S. Garfield Ave. 2nd Floor, Alhambra, CA 91801.
- The national target pay range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on geographic location (current or future), experience, and other job-related factors.
- Extended hours are expected during quarter-end income tax provisions, year-end financial statement audit, and annual filing deadlines.
- Minimal travel (less than 5%); occasional travel to other Astrana offices or advisor locations.
