Senior Accountant - Revenue
Location: Cambridge
Reports to: Revenue Director
Role type: Permanent
Role summary
This role sits within the revenue team of the group accounting function, responsible for setting the group accounting policies for revenue, training the relevant stakeholders on the policy, and ensuring ongoing compliance with IFRS 15 through the development of solid technical abilities and monitored controls across the group. The role also has a commercial aspect, supporting deal reviews and inputting into the development of commercial models.
Revenue compliance
- Ensuring high technical standards and accounting compliance across the group in line with IFRS 15;
- Reviewing large and complex contracts in accordance with IFRS 15, and working with the local financial controllers and revenue accountants on areas of accounting complexity;
- Providing technical guidance and support and response to ad hoc queries from group finance, local controllers and the Commercial and Sales functions;
- Being the subject matter expert for internal projects that have an impact on revenue recognition;
- Preparing accounting papers for complex transactions and judgements;
- Being responsible for revenue recognition policies and updates to the Group Accounting Manual; and
- Being responsible for the training of local and regional controllers in revenue recognition under IFRS;
- Liaising with external audit and ensuring groupwide compliance is met.
Revenue accounting and reporting
- Preparing revenue related financial disclosures;
- Review and analysis of revenue related balance sheet accounts;
- Interacting with Financial Operations in designing and implementing minimum controls in relation to revenue;
- Ensuring compliance with the Group’s minimum internal control framework;
- Providing necessary reporting to external audit as part of the revenue audit process; and
- Supporting the group reporting of certain revenue-based performance metrics, e.g., Annualised Recurring Revenue.
Commercial operations
- Representing finance on the Deal Desk, supporting commercial deal review;
- Supporting the development of commercial models;
- Supporting the implementation of any revenue-related systems;
- Proactively engaging with the sales team to understand upcoming deals and contracts; and
- Developing and updating accounting policies where necessary for new sales offerings.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) 15
- Technical revenue knowledge within the software industry preferred
- Professional accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or similar)
- Stakeholder management
- Good communication skills
