RII is looking for a committed Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance & Accounting team. The Senior Accountant will support the General Ledger team in its monthly activities focused on month-end close and financial reporting. The candidate will be working with the project finance and FP&A teams and will be responsible for booking various monthly journal entries, monitor accounts payables, billings, payroll, balance sheet reconciliations, and conduct monthly financial analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment. They will be motivated to optimize every process they touch and partner with stakeholders up and down stream on continuous improvements.


This position requires the ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance. A current active clearance is not required. This is a hybrid role, must be onsite in our Alexandria, VA office on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Ensure payroll is compliant and accurate and provides excellent support to our managers and employees. This position will track any special dedications or garnishments, coordinate with finance and tax departments to ensure all tax filings and reporting is completed in a timely manner and work closely with other areas, such as, HRIS, Benefits and Compensation to ensure accuracy of employee data in the payroll system
  • Payroll related duties – timesheet/expense review, reconciliation, assisting employees with timesheet
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll system
  • Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of the payroll portion of the Paylocity HRIS system
  • Perform General Ledger responsibilities which include preparing Journal entries and related supporting documentation in accordance with best accounting practices and RII policies and procedures
  • Reconcile semi-monthly labor and payroll calculation in coordination with Human Resources, and Professional Employment Organization
  • Coordinate accounts payable activities by ensuring proper charge codes and timely AP payments, in coordination with program controllers, and resolving vendor inquiries
  • Review expense reports and Purchase Card activities for timely submissions and proper coding; assisting employees across the company with charge code issues and approvals
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis and in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Responsible for monthly billing cycle for all contract types including submission to client portals and facilitating communication with finance team 
  • Support various financial and tax audits or reviews by preparing deliverables and responding to inquiries and resolving issues
  • Assist with the development, documentation, implementation, and update of key processes and procedures to ensure compliance with the Company policies and procedures
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with various projects as assigned and complete various analysis and ad hoc support
  • As a Senior Accountant, you will participate in accounting projects and related matters with the Accounting Manager, Program Controllers and Financial Planning and Analysis team
  • Assist with technical accounting research around equity, leases, and revenue recognition activities

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Finance related field
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or public accounting/auditing
  • Experience with prevalent industry tools including Unanet is required
  • Previous payroll experience
  • Experience in the government contracting industry including cost accounting practices
  • Experience with various contract types (Fixed Price, Cost Plus, and T&M) preferred
  • Detail oriented and strong documentation skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with multiple initiatives and changing priorities
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP requirements
