About the Role
As our Senior Accessibility Specialist, you’ll embed accessibility into our Design System, partnering with designers and engineers to ensure components and patterns meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. You’ll identify barriers, guide practical solutions, and help teams confidently build accessible experiences.
As Resmed’s first dedicated accessibility specialist, you’ll help shape our growing accessibility capability, including how accessibility is built into AI-assisted workflows and experiences. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with real opportunity to make an impact.
What You’ll Do
- Define and embed accessibility standards across the Design System, ensuring components, patterns and guidance align with WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Review designs, prototypes and front-end code, using manual, keyboard, screen-reader and automated accessibility testing.
- Partner with designers and engineers to identify accessibility barriers early and recommend practical, technically achievable solutions.
- Define accessible component behaviours and guidance across HTML, ARIA, focus management, keyboard interaction, colour and contrast, forms, motion and assistive technologies.
- Establish accessibility acceptance criteria, testing practices and documentation within Design System workflows.
- Support product teams with accessibility implementation challenges and help improve accessibility tools and processes.
- Embed accessibility into AI-assisted design and development, helping define guardrails for AI-enabled experiences and exploring where AI can enhance accessibility reviews.
- Advocate for inclusive design, build accessibility capability across teams, and translate evolving standards and technologies into practical guidance.
What You’ll Bring
We're looking for someone with:
- 5+ years' of professional experience in digital accessibility, ideally working directly with digital product, design and engineering teams.
- Strong working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA and the ability to translate standards into practical design and development guidance.
- Experience conducting accessibility reviews and audits across designs, prototypes and implemented digital experiences.
- Hands-on experience testing with assistive technologies, including screen readers and keyboard-only navigation.
- Strong knowledge of accessible HTML, CSS and ARIA, and an understanding of how accessibility is implemented in modern web applications.
- Experience using automated accessibility testing tools and an understanding of where automated testing needs to be supplemented by manual and user testing.
- An interest in AI-assisted design and development, and the ability to think critically about how accessibility standards can be incorporated into emerging AI tools, workflows and experiences.
- The ability to work closely with UX/UI designers and engineers to identify issues and develop pragmatic solutions.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly the ability to turn technical accessibility requirements into clear component documentation and guidance.
- Confidence advocating for accessibility, constructively challenging decisions where necessary and helping others understand the customer impact behind accessibility requirements.
- A self-directed approach and the ability to prioritise effectively when you're the accessibility specialist supporting a small team with competing demands.
- Curiosity, pragmatism and a collaborative mindset — you'll need to influence through expertise and partnership rather than simply policing compliance.
- A genuine interest in inclusive design and creating digital experiences that can be used by as many people as possible.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience working with Design Systems or shared component libraries would be a significant advantage, particularly experience defining accessible component behaviour, testing component libraries, or creating reusable accessibility guidance.
- Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, mobile accessibility, accessibility user research, or applying accessibility principles to AI-enabled products and workflows would also be valuable, but isn't essential.
