What we need
We are looking for a Senior 3D Web Engineer to join our Simulation Team within our Software Engineering organization. Your job will be to design and develop cloud-based 3D digital twin and simulation applications that enable users to visualize, analyze, test, and interact with robotic warehouse automation systems. You will help build next-generation simulation platforms by combining modern frontend development, real-time 3D visualization, and digital twin technologies.
What we do
The Simulation Team is part of the Software Engineering organization, which is responsible for building the software platforms and technologies that power Symbotic's warehouse automation solutions. Our team develops simulation systems, digital twin platforms, cloud applications, and visualization tools that help engineers, operators, and stakeholders better understand, validate, and optimize robotic automation workflows.
What you’ll do
Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based 3D digital twin and simulation applications for robotic warehouse automation systems.
Build interactive 3D web applications using technologies such as Three.js, WebGL, WebGPU, and related modern frontend technologies.
Develop frontend features that enable users to visualize robot movement, warehouse layouts, fleet behavior, simulation results, telemetry data, and system-level automation workflows.
Work on 3D rendering, scene management, camera controls, object interaction, animation, lighting, shadows, shaders, materials, and performance optimization.
Identify and resolve frontend and 3D rendering performance bottlenecks to ensure smooth user experience across different platforms, browsers, and hardware configurations.
Integrate 3D visualization features with backend services, simulation engines, cloud APIs, telemetry streams, and digital twin data sources.
Collaborate with simulation engineers, robotics engineers, cloud engineers, backend engineers, UX/UI designers, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver cohesive and scalable simulation platform experiences.
Translate complex robotics, simulation, and operational requirements into intuitive and effective user-facing tools.
Provide senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders with clear technical insights, trade-off analysis, risks, and recommendations to support long-term technical roadmaps.
Mentor other engineers, share technical knowledge, promote frontend and 3D engineering best practices, and help the team deliver innovative and scalable solutions.
Maintain clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, frontend design notes, API integration guides, and usage instructions.
Stay up to date with modern frontend development, 3D web graphics, cloud-based simulation, digital twin platforms, rendering engines, and AI-assisted development tools.
Perform other related duties as reasonably assigned by the direct manager or the Employer.
What you’ll need
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Computer Graphics, Robotics, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong experience in frontend development and/or 3D application development.
3+ years of professional experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue.js, Angular, or similar technologies.
Core Requirements:
Primary Stack: Professional ReactJS and ThreeJS expertise
Language: Mastery of JavaScript/TypeScript
Experience with 3D rendering techniques, including shaders, lighting, shadow mapping, materials, textures, camera systems, object selection, and scene optimization.
Good understanding of frontend reliability, scalability, performance optimization, maintainability, and testing.
Plus: Experience with ECS software architecture pattern.
Plus: Experience with Blender
Plus: Experience with robotics systems, warehouse automation, digital twin platforms, simulation systems, telemetry visualization, or operational data platforms.
Plus: Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, or similar tools.
Good teamwork, communication, time management, ownership, and problem-solving skills.
Working proficiency in verbal and written English, with the ability to communicate independently in an international environment and clearly present technical concepts, findings, risks, and recommendations to leadership stakeholders.
Our Environment
Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
Employees may be required to use a personal credit card for business travel expenses, which are reimbursed based on the program guidelines. Eligible employees may receive a corporate credit card based on role and travel requirements, but a personal credit card may be needed during onboarding until the corporate card is issued.
