Job Duties:

Responsible for program planning, implementation, evaluation and/or supervision of program staff, including interns, student workers and service volunteers. Monitors budget and appropriate funding for program. Engages with campus, foundation, and community partners to develop resources for program and program participants. Strives to expand and ensure access to program, facilities and educational services to diverse audiences.

The College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CASSH) is a vibrant academic community bringing together the strengths of the liberal arts, innovative interdisciplinary programs, and the creative energy of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. The College actively supports the university’s General Education Program and offers a robust number of undergraduate degrees and three graduate programs. As a staff member in CASSH, you will join colleagues who share a deep commitment to student success. 

Some lifting and transporting of materials for campus and community displays. Program is regularly scheduled as evening sessions. Flexibility in schedule to meet needs and opportunities of the program, including rare weekend.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide and deliver community engagement program for Department of Race, Gender and Sexuality Studies to improve community’s access to higher education.

  • Plan and deliver a series of accessible, empowering, and current pre-college programming for adults.

  • Create outreach and recruitment strategies for general and specific audiences, including print, online materials, and community engagement activities.

  • Provide internships and service-learning sites for undergraduates from RGSS and UWL.

  • In cooperation with the UWL Foundation,  monitor and administer SSP Locally Grown Scholarships and other designated scholarships and grants, for SSP participants who attend UWL and other qualified higher education institutions.

  • Build campus and community relationships, support, and awareness of SSP, adult and parenting and other returning adult students and the need for scholarship funds and grants.

  • Create recognition and communication strategies for donors and supporters of SSP and parenting students, in cooperation with RGSS Department and UWL Foundation.

  • Provide service and represent RGSS and UWL in the community and through mentoring students, Department projects, and community outreach.

  • Participate in and offer professional development on issues related to parenting students and access to higher education. 

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

$28.36 / hour

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of adult and returning student experiences within higher education and adult learning principles
  • Knowledge of and experiences with under-resourced and under-served adults within community and education settings. 
  • Knowledge of basics and current admissions, financial aid, academic programs, student services and advising systems within 4-year public and private institutions, and 2-year public technical colleges.
  • Ability to create, deliver, adapt, and evaluate meaningful pre-college curriculum and learning activities for non-credit program. 
  • Experience teaching and leading discussions with adult learners.
  • Ability to develop outreach strategies and materials to recruit participants and support for program, using appropriate university offices and processes.
  • Ability to plan annual fundraising campaign and maintaining donor relationships.
  • Ability to plan, market and deliver annual community-campus event(s).
  • Ability to budget, record expenses, and monitor budget for program in cooperation with UWL and UWL Foundation personnel and processes.
