The Security Officer works under the supervision of the DIRECTOR – Security and the Security Managers. The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all persons, equipment, and physical property of Mosaic Life Care.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting patrols of the buildings and grounds, ensuring adequate access control and protection of caregivers and all Mosaic Life Care properties, and able to respond to an armed threat, and bring a safe resolution to the threat or situation..
  • Conducting inspections of the facilities looking for unsafe acts and/or conditions, which threaten life safety.
  • Able to operate in a stressful environment where person/persons have experienced life threating injuries and death.
  • Controlling persons experiencing behavior that is unacceptable via non-violent physical crisis intervention techniques (CPI) or the approved Force Continuum action, or other accepted practices dependent upon the circumstances.
  • Participating in positive public relations activities by providing assistance with information, directions, and vehicles management.
  • Documenting activities and reports on a daily basis, providing information to the leadership. Officers will maintain all equipment and vehicles in a constant state of readiness.
  • Coordinating traffic and crowd control during emergency situations and provide direction as necessary or requested.
  • Respond and investigate incidents in a timely manner and effectively document the facts of the case, take photos of the crime scene and secure any evidence.
  • Direct and or assist Security Officer (I) in the performance of their duties during their shift.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education
  • H.S. Diploma - GED or HiSET equivalent - Required
  • Two years college, preferably in criminal justice, or Fire Safety and or Post Certified Police Academy. - Preferred

Work Experience
  • 2 Years - Position dealing with the public, preferably in the Law Enforcement, Fire Safety, Military Security, Federal (DHS Department of Homeland Security) - Required

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License - Valid In State - Chauffeurs license or ability to obtain valid chauffeur’s driver`s - Required within 90 Days Or
  • Driver's License - Valid In State - Minimum class E chauffeurs license - Required Upon Hire
  • Must complete the International Association of Hospital Safety and Security basic Security Officer Exam - Required within 120 Days

Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

Skills and Abilities

Essential Technical/Motor Skills

  • Must be able to gather information and formulate an accurate, detailed report based on factual accounts of a case.
  • Able to calm excited callers and take good written information, transfers calls appropriately, and have good hand/eye coordination.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Must be able to communicate directions, policies, and procedures, in a coherent fashion to eliminate misunderstandings of what is being requested by the officer.
  • Ability to transform information from memory, and or notes into a written document.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Must be capable of foot patrol of entire campus (inside and out).
  • Respond to alarms; capable of standing in the elements; must have ability to run to assist caregivers, visitors, etc. if person is in trouble.
  • Physically restrain/subdue violent and combative people, at times for several minutes.
  • Assist nursing with lifting heavy patients in rooms and from vehicles.
  • Control mental health patients on the unit and during vehicle trips to court, state facility, or other campus.
  • After new job applicants reviews this job description with their Primary Care Physician (PCP) the PCP will give written clearance for the job applicant to complete the following essential functions test which is a condition of employment: Running up two flights of steps (108 steps) in 20 seconds.
  • Moving a 145 pound dummy 25 feet, able to complete 20 sit ups in 50 seconds and 20 push-ups in 50 seconds.
  • Recruit must be able to safely handle/grip the unit approved firearm.
  • Be able to successfully complete the Mosaic Security Officer’s Firearm Course.

Essential Mental Abilities

  • Capable of remembering facts and commit to writing.
  • High stress requires both physical and mental strength and situation will escalate.
  • Must develop high skill level with training/education. Handle emergency situations such as first responder to fires, patients losing body fluids, and criminal activity.
  • As a condition of employment, all job applicants must be able to view a mock scenario and meet the minimum requirements for recording the essential facts of the investigation.
  • All Recruits must pass the mental evaluation to prove fit to carry a firearm by a licensed psychologist provided by the organization.

Essential Sensory Requirements

  • As a condition of employment, all job applicants must have good vision (corrected to 20/40 or better) for their own protection and that of others.
  • Must meet and maintain the minimum requirements for color blind, distance vision and hearing test physical fitness test.
  • Capable of smelling smoke, fumes, etc.

Exposure to Hazards

  • Weather elements, hazardous materials, hazardous gases, body fluids, and combative individuals.

    Skills Required

    • High school diploma, GED, or HiSET equivalent
    • Two years of college, preferably in criminal justice or fire safety, or completion of a POST-certified police academy
    • Two years of experience working with the public, preferably in law enforcement, fire safety, military security, or DHS-related work
    • Valid in-state chauffeur's license or ability to obtain one within 90 days
