Security Engineer, Cloud Security

The Role
The Cloud Platform Security team safeguards Block's cloud environments while enabling teams to move fast and build securely. As builders at heart, we develop and maintain the guardrails, tools, and services that protect Block's cloud infrastructure and supply chain, creating frictionless experiences for our engineering teams. Our mission is to make secure deployments the default path of least resistance.

This role combines deep technical expertise in cloud platforms and security with a keen understanding of developer needs, as you'll be responsible for building and maintaining the secure foundations that power Block's products and services.
You Will

• Design and implement security controls and automation across multiple cloud providers (AWS, GCP) to protect Block's infrastructure and customer data
• Build and enhance "paved path" solutions that make secure deployments the natural choice for engineering teams
• Partner with platform teams to develop scalable solutions that eliminate entire categories of security risks
• Implement and maintain security controls for protecting our software supply chain and critical infrastructure

You Have

• 4+ years of experience as a software or security engineer (Go or Python preferred)
• 3+ years of strong hands-on experience developing applications for and securing infrastructure running on AWS or GCP
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and understanding of secure DevOps practices
• Experience maturing the cloud security posture of large, complex environments.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently and drive projects to completion

Bonus Points

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes)
• Experience building developer-facing tools and APIs
• Experience working with both clouds (GCP and AWS)
• Ability to work well cross-functionally, and partner with various platform teams

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
