POSITION SUMMARY: 

This Scheduling position is responsible for optimally scheduling gasoline and distillate products out of origin refineries/terminals and delivering light products to destination terminals.  The successful candidate will be assigned to the Southern region and experience many diverse scheduling roles.  Modes of distribution used to execute the scheduling plan include barge, pipeline, rail, and truck.  The candidate will have direct interaction with a wide array of organizations within MPC, MPLX and conduct business with pipelines, terminals, trading companies and other external partners.  The applicant should be organized, self-motivated, team oriented, and possess an entrepreneurial mindset. 

 

This position is part of a job family with multiple grade levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Nominates and schedules pipeline, waterborne, truck, rail and/or delivery movements     through use of propriety and third-party scheduling systems. Monitors inventories and shipping schedules daily to ensure that supply meets demand.
  • Communicates and verifies planned movements with all stakeholders, including but not limited to traders, optimizers, internal and external counterparties, customers, suppliers, producers, marketers, terminals, vessels, and pipelines.
  • Provides timely and accurate inventory position information to Trading, Pricing, Marketing, Trucking and Supervision.
  • Responds to unexpected events making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply.
  • Initiates and coordinates movements independently through Marathon’s distribution channels based on a given plan. Identifies and communicates constraints and begins to identify optimization opportunities on their desk.
  • Gains knowledge of the costs of transportation associated with the movements on their desk. Learns the regional supply picture. 
  • Manages more than one desk fluently. Trains others to take cover desk
  • Works with RVP Coordinator, Terminals, Pipelines, and Marketing to coordinate RVP conversion during VOC season. 
  • Monitors inventory balances for Exchange contracts. 
  • Remains on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies or provide guidance and instructions. 

The above responsibilities, notwithstanding the final scope of the role, will be determined by the experience level of the candidate selected. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

  • A minimum bachelor's degree in related field is required. 
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of industry-related experience required 
  • Previous scheduling experience is preferred but not required. 
  • Up to 10% of travel is required.
