The Business Development (BD) manager position reports into the BD Director of Japan and will be part of a team of 2-3 BD managers who share tasks on a project basis. The Japan BD department reports into the Pfizer Japan president, with a dotted line into Global BD.
The BD team is first and foremost looking for opportunities to contribute to business growth or risk-management throughout the product lifecycle through collaboration with external parties for ALL Therapy areas (TAs) in Japan.
This takes place through pro-active search & evaluation (S&E) for late-stage opportunities for Japan to acquire or in-license assets (In-organic Growth) as well as early-stage S&E in collaboration with global. -This includes reactively introducing local opportunities to global as well as providing Japan input for global deals etc. It also takes place through establishing meaningful alliances to e.g. increase revenues (or save costs) for existing assets, such as co-promotions and other partnerships (Organic Growth). Finally, the BD team is working closely with the TAs and Global BD to try to out-license or divest LLP/LOE assets that are no longer a strategic priority for the company (Risk Management). Furthermore, BD is responsible not only for maintaining contracts but for terminating partnerships / contracts when necessary, as well.
Once deals have been negotiated successfully by BD and alliances have been established, the BD Manager is expected to work as an alliance manager acting as a facilitator between Pfizer and the partner while controlling alliance decision making governance to maximize alliance business performance.
