Job Description
The Product Engineer for this role will work on delivering Furniture with focus on wooden material categories (Flatline/Solid wood).
The Product Engineer will be responsible for a variety of responsibilities as below:
- Lead and involve the right resources in Purchasing to secure the product development (NEWS and MOVES) projects of medium or high complexity are delivered on time, with quality and full compliance
- Lead product development with focus on furniture with wood knowledge at the factory floor from a technical point of view and secure scalability for further implementation at other suppliers
- Define together with Home furnishing business’ (HFB), the evaluation & test requirements the supplier has to fulfil during the development stage, follow up that requirements are fulfilled before production start and secure the product is at correct quality level according to IKEA Documentation (including packaging, tests and comply with relevant standards, demands and guidelines)
- Participate in Contract Review and lead implementation of product documentation connected to new articles as well as product improves at suppliers
- Secure that the product is at correct quality level according to IKEA Documentation (including packaging and P0010, tested, and complying with relevant Standards, Demands, and Guidelines)
- In cooperation with supplier and Product Compliance specialist, secure and verify that all IKEA requirement documents are correct, complete and available in the IT system at first delivery
- Contribute to the development projects from a technical perspective, with competence in construction, material, production, quality and customer expectations
- Actively identify put forward and execute Product Improvements with priority to satisfy customers, as well to utilize material and energy in an efficient way
- Conduct Production Risk Assessments for new products together with production engineer
- Register product and arrange for Gate check before First Delivery
- Secure the 1st batch production and First delivery inspection are completed and approved
Qualifications
We are looking for people with solid knowledge & experiences of new product introduction, production processes and technologies, proven experience in supplier management & project management, you have capability to evaluate the suppliers technical and quality performance to produce products, genuinely interested in understanding the reality of production and continuous improvements.
You have ability to make decisions and solve problems with holistic view.
High energy and self-driven way of working to deliver better products for the many people by working together with the suppliers and co-workers in IKEA.A background in engineering, quality and product/production development.
The Product Engineer for this role will work for delivering Furniture with focus on wooden material categories (Flatline/Solid wood). In-depth knowledge of wood as a material for furniture and the ability to explore local/regional wood species will be the key requirement.
To be successful in this role, below competences are important for you.
- A background in engineering, quality and product/production development
- Solid knowledge and experience in Wood construction (for furniture) and production processes
- Preferably having an engineering education and at least 5 years of working experience
- Strong communicative skills and speak fluent English in complicated environment with multiple stakeholders, and able to handle conflicts
- Proven experience in project management
- Proven experience in stakeholder management
- Preferred knowledge of product development tools
- Proactive approach with can-do attitude
- Experienced in product development and industrialization of products.
- Knowledge about Total Quality Management
- Good knowledge about continuous improvement
- Project leadership experience
- Ability to work with and through others.
- Experience to work in a process-oriented environment.
- Knowledge about Solid Works, Product construction, testing and documentation.
Additional Information
This position is based in Bangalore, India and you will report to the New Business manager at SASA. We offer mobility support for this role.
Extensive travelling is a part of the assignment since we work closely with our suppliers.
