The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly experienced SAP Financial Management Functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead Business Process Re-Engineering (BPR) efforts for financial operations within the Joint Transportation Management System (JTMS), a large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformation program.
This role is critical to modernizing financial processes that support global transportation and logistics operations. You will work closely with government stakeholders, program leadership, and cross-functional teams to redesign financial processes, ensure auditability, and align mission requirements with SAP S/4HANA best practices.
This is a high-visibility position requiring deep SAP financial expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence enterprise-level financial transformation in a regulated DoD environment.
Responsibilities:
SAP Financial Management Functional Expertise (FI/CO)
- Serve as the functional authority for SAP S/4HANA Finance (FI/CO), including: General Ledger (GL) and Universal Journal, Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), Cost Center Accounting and Internal Orders, Federal Funds Management (FM), Budget Control, and Cost Allocation
- Provide guidance on configuration, standard functionality, and design trade-offs within SAP.
- Ensure proper alignment of financial processes with transportation and logistics operational flows.
Auditability, Compliance & Controls
- Lead efforts to ensure financial processes meet federal financial management regulations and audit readiness requirements.
- Design and implement internal controls, traceability mechanisms, and financial data integrity safeguards.
- Support compliance with frameworks such as FIAR (Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness) and other
DoD financial standards.
- Identify financial risks and provide mitigation strategies and recommendations to leadership.
Requirements Analysis & Solution Design
- Translate business and regulatory requirements into detailed functional specifications and solution designs.
- Perform fit-gap analysis between legacy financial processes and SAP S/4HANA capabilities.
- Recommend scalable, compliant solutions that balance operational needs with system constraints and best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Advisory
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, providing expert guidance on financial system transformation and process optimization.
- Influence decisions related to financial architecture, data structures, and reporting strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Transportation, Supply Chain, Procurement) to ensure end-to-end financial integration
Testing, Validation & Deployment Support
- Define and support financial testing strategies, including SIT and UAT, ensuring solutions meet business and compliance requirements.
- Validate financial data accuracy, reporting outputs, and reconciliation processes.
- Support deployment planning, cutover activities, and transition to steady-state operations.
Change Management & Financial Process Adoption
- Support organizational change initiatives by helping stakeholders adapt to modernized financial processes and systems.
- Contribute to training materials and user education on SAP financial functionality and controls.
- Identify adoption risks and provide actionable recommendations to ensure successful implementation and user adoption.
Continuous Improvement & Financial Optimization
- Monitor financial system performance and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy, and compliance posture.
- Recommend and drive implementation of process improvements and system enhancements.
Qualifications:
A “Secret” clearance is required to begin employment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or related field
- 8+ years of SAP Finance (FI/CO) functional experience, including deep expertise in S/4HANA Finance
- Demonstrated experience supporting Business Process Re-Engineering (BPR) or financial transformation initiatives
- Strong knowledge of federal financial management processes, auditability, and compliance requirements
- Experience working within DoD or federal government financial environments
- Proven ability to lead workshops, influence stakeholders, and drive consensus across complex organizations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred
- Experience supporting large-scale logistics/transportation financial systems
- Familiarity with Funds Management (FM) and budgetary control processes in SAP
- Experience with FIAR compliance, audit remediation, or financial audit support
- Knowledge of integration with SAP modules such as TM, MM, SD, and EWM

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
