As an Infrastructure Configuration Consultant within PNC's Site Reliability Center (SRC), you will be located in Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, TX, Birmingham, AL or Pittsburgh, PA. The position is primarily based in a PNC location. Responsibilities require time in the office or in the field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities may be performed remotely, at the manager’s discretion.
The required schedule is Friday 7:00am (EST)-3:30pm (EST), Saturday and Sunday 7:00am (EST)-8:00pm (EST), & Monday 7:00am (EST)-3:30pm (EST)
Candidate should possess skills that are aligned to the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles with a focus on the discipline specific to this position. SRE is a software engineering approach to PNC’s SRC Operations. SRE professionals use software as a tool to manage systems, solve problems, and automate tasks. Engineers’ focus specializes in improving all aspects of reliability, acting as a conduit between infrastructure and application teams on support issues and improving tools, automation, processes, and software.
• Build automation to manage the SRC operations and eliminate/minimize manual functions and toil
• Collaborate with Application/Infrastructure support engineers and operations teams
• Engage in post-incident reviews for improvements and determining the cause to prevent recurrence
• Document work to turn findings into repeatable actions via knowledge articles
• Mentoring and coaching junior engineers
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Experience with web-based applications, SOA (Services Oriented Architectures), and web application servers, e.g., WebLogic, and WebSphere
• Competency in relational database structures and SQL
• Experience with process documentation and documentation tools, e.g., Visio
• Experience with UNIX system administration and TCP / IP networking
• Experience using Java, J2EE, XML, SQL, and Shell / Perl Scripting in a UNIX environment
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
• Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team, taking ownership of tasks and driving them to completion
• Relevant certifications, such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or Pure Storage Certified Architect (PCA), are a plus
• ITIL fundamentals

Job Description

  • Manages the requirements for planning, organizing, and implementing enterprise-wide technology infrastructure and configuration management functions.
  • Leads the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of major configuration changes from acquisition to termination.
  • Oversees the effective implementation and use of the configuration management process, methodology, tools, procedures, and audit activities.
  • Develops and publishes metrics to qualify and quantify configuration success; ensures that configuration practices are in compliance with standards.
  • Ensures the accuracy and validity of the configuration database for content on assets, major infrastructure and platform components, system documentation and service components.

Configuration Management – Knowledge of and ability to manage the process, tools and techniques for managing hardware, software, communications, facilities and personnel that provide the organization's IT services.

ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) – Knowledge of and ability to apply ITIL processes and standards for managing the IT infrastructure.

IT Quality Assurance – Knowledge of and the ability to utilize a variety of specific technical tools and testing methods to ensure the quality of IT production.

Performance Measurement and Tuning – Knowledge of and the ability to monitor, measure, and optimize individual and combined utilization of hardware, software and telecommunications components.

Software Change Request Management – Knowledge of, and experience with, managing product change requests from customers, prospective customers, vendors, and internal staff.

Software Product Installation and Support – Knowledge of, and experience in, helping customers install, integrate, and operationalize software products or systems.

System and Technology Integration – Knowledge of the features and facilities of systems, and the ability to integrate and communicate among applications, databases and technology platforms.

Systems Software Infrastructure – Knowledge of software technology, and the ability to plan global, regional and local software architecture and infrastructure components.

Work Experience

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree, with 3+ years of relevant / direct industry experience. Certifications are often desired. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
