The Role

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a hands-on sales leader to make a significant impact. As the VP of Sales, you will be a "player-coach," responsible for both leading and mentoring a small, talented sales team and for personally driving high-value strategic partnerships. You will be instrumental in shaping our commercial strategy, with a focus on a true partnership-led, collaborative sales approach to close large, impactful deals on a regular basis.

You will work closely with marketing to drive a significant sales pipeline and with customer success to expand our footprint within existing clients. Staying informed of market trends, emerging technologies, and policy developments will be critical to informing and adapting our business strategy in a rapidly evolving low-carbon landscape. Your primary individual focus will be on securing and growing strategic partnerships with major Facilities Management companies across the UK, a critical channel for our continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities

This role is designed for a player-coach who will not only lead and mentor the sales team but will also personally drive revenue by securing high-value, complex deals.

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Architect Growth Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy to scale revenue from £2m to £10m ARR.
  • Executive Collaboration: As a key member of the Leadership Team, contribute to the overall company direction, represent Grid Edge at industry events, and collaborate closely with the product team to ensure the commercial plan is fully aligned with our product roadmap.

Hands On Sales Execution & Partnership Development

  • Lead from the Front: Personally identify, cultivate, and close complex, high value partnership agreements with key players in the Built Environment, carrying and exceeding your own individual revenue target.
  • Champion a Partnership Led Approach: Embed a collaborative sales methodology focused on developing compelling, data backed business cases that make adopting Grid Edge's technology a simple decision for C-level stakeholders and key decision makers.

Team Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Coach & Mentor for Success: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and success. You will mentor the team in best practices to accelerate deal completion and exceed targets.
  • Drive Pipeline Velocity & Customer Growth: Ensure sales pipeline effectiveness and forecasting accuracy across the team. Collaborate with Customer Success to define and execute strategies for upselling and managing strategic accounts, ensuring long-term profitability and partnership value.

What We are Looking For:

  • Proven Scale-Up Leader: A track record of success leading B2B sales teams in a high-growth company, ideally having played a key role in scaling revenue through the £2m-£10m range. Experience in Facilities Management, Proptech, Energy, or Building Management  is essential.
  • Player-Coach Mentality: A passion for both managing a team and rolling up your sleeves to close significant, complex deals yourself. You lead by example and are energised by a hands-on role.
  • Commercially Astute Partner: A strategic thinker with a proven ability to shape and grow complex, long-term partnerships. You are skilled at influencing senior stakeholders and are focused on achieving sustainable, profitable growth. An existing network within the UK Facilities Management industry is highly desirable.
  • Consultative & Collaborative Seller: An expert in consultative, value-driven sales. You have High Emotional Intelligence, excelling at understanding customer problems, building strong relationships, and presenting compelling business cases.
  • Driven & Strategic: A results-oriented and emotionally intelligent leader who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. You are a natural relationship builder, both internally and externally.
  • Master Communicator & Relationship Builder: You possess an exceptional ability to make the complex simple, translating technical details into clear, user friendly business value. You build strong, trusted relationships with ease, connecting authentically with everyone from a C-suite executive to a building caretaker, and you cultivate these connections for the long term.
  • High Technical Aptitude & Product Mastery: You are highly proficient in leveraging modern sales software (e.g., CRM, automation tools) to boost team efficiency and effectiveness. Furthermore, you have a demonstrated ability to quickly learn, use, and demo sophisticated technology, becoming a trusted product expert who can confidently guide customers and build their trust. Familiarity with AI revenue tools or using data as a key analysis and reporting capability is also essential.
