Job Title: Sales Engineer

Location: 50% Travel throughout Texas, remote when not traveling

Division: Trimble Field Solutions

Job Summary:

The Trimble Construction Application Specialist is the technical expert for Trimble Construction products.  Their role is to understand the workflows of our end customers and to educate and train our distribution partners how the Trimble solutions complement and optimize those workflows.  They will also communicate with the end customer to understand their pain points and create a solution that may encompass varying solutions across the Trimble portfolio.  Ensuring that the channel can quote, install and commission these solutions is a critical role of this position.  They will work closely with the sales and technical staff of our distribution partners to improve the technical selling process and the after sales installation and commissioning phases.  Will also work with the training department to determine training needs of the dealer as well as help develop the necessary content.

The Construction Application Specialist will need an intimate understanding of civil construction processes and a strong knowledge of construction principles and how Trimble solutions apply to those principles.  Solution Application Specialists are the technical experts for all Trimble Construction solutions.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated aptitude for technology; strong technical problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.

  • Comfortable speaking to large audiences of varying backgrounds

  • Can articulate the value proposition of Trimble solutions to dealers and customers

  • Can both present and physically demonstrate Trimble solutions to dealers and customers

  • Strong sense of urgency as it relates to customer solutions

  • Strong writing skills, technical writing in particular

  • Physically capable of long hours on construction sites

  • Willingness to travel, +/-50% travel expected

  • Strong prioritization skills

  • Provide on the job training in an organized fashion

  • Strong aptitude in construction and/or survey practices

  • Listens to dealers and customers about their needs and provides valuable “voice of customer” back to the Business Area for future development considerations

  • Is responsible for identifying technical gaps in the distribution channel and creating a plan to address

  • Will represent Trimble during various trade shows and training events throughout the year

  • Assists the Trimble sales manager on the “pre sales” checklist to ensure that all the necessary information has been gathered by the dealer to accurately quote and deliver solutions

  • Is responsible for ensuring the distributor is capable of commissioning and supporting the end customer when they deploy Trimble solutions

  • Can work with end customers to solve pain points using Trimble offerings and integrating varying platforms in a singular solution

  • Ability to build effective relationships and work across multiple functions to resolve end-user needs; represent challenges faced; provide input for training needs; etc.

Measures of Success:

  • See wider segmentation of product sales within a specific dealer.  This demonstrates that the channel is comfortable and capable with all Trimble solutions and is delivering them into the market

  • Frequency of escalated support cases being submitted will reduce as dealer knowledge is increased

  • Beta process is shortened due to deep engagement by the Solution Application Specialist team and the dealer

  • The daily tasks become more proactive and less reactive.  Current SAE’s managers spend a lot of time post sales supporting the dealers on installation and setup and oftentimes in troubleshooting.  The role should be preparing the dealers to be more self sufficient so that TFS managers can assist at the sales phase

  • Create a “Dealer Technical Staff Report Card” for each dealer in the Field Application Specialists territory. This scorecard will grade the dealer on their capabilities to sell and support the 4 main buckets of Trimble solutions: Earthmoving, Off Machine, Specialty Construction and Software.  Update the report card on a quarterly basis to determine future quarter priorities

Compensation:  Trimble provides the following compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that it in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position.
