We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Sales & Use Tax Manager for our Katy office. This key leadership role involves managing multiple complex tax engagements, delivering innovative sales and use tax planning strategies, and staying abreast of tax law changes across various states. The ideal candidate will communicate key issues and changes effectively to the firm and our clients.
At Merit Advisors, our Sales and Use Tax Managers play a crucial role in developing our Associates and Senior Associates in both tax technical knowledge and client-facing skills, ensuring the highest quality service and expertise for our diverse clientele.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage multiple complex sales and use tax engagements.
  • Develop and implement innovative tax planning strategies for clients.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in state tax laws and regulations.
  • Provide clear and comprehensive written communications on key tax issues to the firm and clients.
  • Mentor and develop Associates and Senior Associates enhancing their technical and client service skills.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships and deliver exceptional client service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA, CMI, or JD is a plus
  • Minimum of 6 years of state and local tax experience with a focus on indirect (sales & use) tax compliance and consulting.
  • Proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop staff.
  • Strong relationship management and practice development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract new clients and expand services to existing clients.
