Location: Corporate Support; 109 Northpark Blvd., Covington, LA 70433

Job Summary:

The Safety Specialist is responsible for sustaining effective communication with the field regarding all work-related incidents and maintaining accurate safety reports as outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Interviews sales center personnel regarding work-related incidents and records in a timely manner. Tracks the incident through completion.

  • Manages 24/7 Safety Emergency Hotline.

  • Provides training to field personnel on proper incident management per company protocol and other training areas, as needed.

  • Researches and analyzes data to provide trend reports and tactics to minimize risk and liability.

  • Completes annual OSHA reporting (i.e. 300 log, 300A log, and 301).

  • Creates a periodic Safety Seconds emails for targeted training in reference to current trends.

  • Performs and coordinates site safety audits for compliance with company policies and government/jurisdictions regulations.

  • Manages incident reporting database.

  • Assists in department responsibilities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a safety-related function preferred.

  • Experience with OSHA, EPA, DOT, IFC, NFPA and Life Safety Codes as they apply to warehouse and distribution settings.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Possess strong computer skills including proficiency in MS Office software, especially MS Excel.

  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Ability to travel 15-20%.
