Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs that comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with plant leadership to establish and execute safety strategies aligned with organizational objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to foster a positive safety culture by promoting employee engagement, accountability, and ownership of safety practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to reduce workplace hazards and prevent injuries and illnesses.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and analyze safety metrics and key performance indicators to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and other applicable regulatory requirements, including preparing and submitting required reports.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate safety training programs to ensure effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and assessments to verify compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including coordination of drills and training activities.
  • Administer safety recognition and engagement programs designed to positively influence employee behaviors and safety performance.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and managers regarding safety leadership, accountability, and best practices.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims management and collaborate with Human Resources and third-party administrators to support effective case management and return-to-work programs.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for all environmental, health, and safety matters and act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing risk and enhancing operational performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in environmental, health, and safety leadership within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions and drive execution in fast-paced manufacturing operations.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and optimizing performance across diverse work groups.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Experience performing risk assessments and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Experience conducting EHS audits and compliance assessments.
  • Demonstrated success influencing leaders and employees at all levels of the organization to drive cultural change and improve safety performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a results-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
  • Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) designation.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs involving highly hazardous chemicals.
  • Experience with behavior-based safety programs.
  • Experience managing environmental permitting requirements, including air, water, and waste programs.
  • Experience implementing company-wide safety standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

Working Conditions

  • Works within a manufacturing environment, including exposure to non-climate-controlled areas.
  • Regular presence on the production floor is required to support employees and monitor safety performance.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, audits, or support of other facilities.
