About the Role:

Hastings Deering is recruiting for an experienced Safety Manager to join us for a 12 month fixed term position in our Townsville, QLD-based branch.

Reporting directly to the Executive Manager - Safety & Sustainability, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of safety and sustainability functions in designated Business Centres; ensuring compliance with Company safety systems and standards as well as legislation and Business Centre Safety Improvement plans.

Key responsibilities:

  • This role will involve the following key duties and responsibilities:
  • Implement safety strategies and initiatives to improve safety performance whilst ensuring compliance with Company safety systems and standards and OH&S Legislation.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Manager – Safety & Sustainability identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices. 
  • Ensure mine related safety alerts, cases, and incidents are managed accordingly.
  • Oversee incident investigations and lead investigations.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to Safety Advisors and other internal stakeholders including Business Centre Managers as required.
  • Manage employee safety programs.
  • Develop and ensure effective communication and relations with the client and act as Company liaison for on-site matters.

Essential requirements:

You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • Relevant experience in a safety role within a diversified Company
  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Experience in Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordination
  • Previous experience managing HSE policies and procedures for a multi geographic diverse organisation within the Mining or Heavy Equipment industry
  • ICAM or recognised root cause analysis qualifications
  • Lead Auditor and Cert IV in Workplace Training Assessment (Desirable)
