Description

Job Title: Safety Coordinator

Location: FL & GA —~50% travel, future expansion states

______________________________________________________________________________

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Senior Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator serves as Sunvena's primary safety presence in the field, overseeing operations across Florida and Georgia with plans for future expansion. In this role, you will drive safety culture by conducting 25-30 monthly field audits, leading bi-monthly training initiatives alongside the Training & Onboarding Coordinator, and maintaining full compliance for safety equipment. Additionally, this position facilitates daily toolbox talks, manages incident reporting and workers' compensation intake, and leads all-hands safety meetings to ensure a secure work environment for our teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct 25-30 jobsite safety audits per month across all FL and GA locations (and future expansion states); document findings and drive corrections to closure.
  • Lead training activities on a bi-monthly basis in support of the Training & Onboarding Coordinator, reinforcing OSHA, fall protection, and other required topics.
  • Oversee that safety equipment is in working order according to OSHA and other applicable safety standards; ensure gear is inspected and in good condition, and remove damaged equipment from service.
  • Lead morning toolbox talks, courtyard training, and necessary all-hands meetings with field teams.
  • Manage incident reporting and complete initial intake details for all workers' compensation cases, coordinating with the Senior Safety Manager and HR.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors in real time, coach the crew, and escalate or exercise stop-work authority when conditions warrant.
  • Verify proper anchorage, harness inspection and fit, ladder setup, guardrails, and rooftop access practices on every visit.
  • Verify lockout/tagout, PPE selection, arc flash boundaries, and safe practices around energized DC and AC systems and battery storage.
  • Maintain audit records, training sign-in sheets, equipment inspection logs, SDS binders, and incident files.
  • Implement heat illness prevention, hydration, and shade practices; monitor weather and site conditions and advise on work stoppages.
  • Verify that subcontractors on Sunvena sites meet the same safety expectations as internal crews.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of safety experience in construction, solar, electrical, or a related field — or 3+ years of field trade experience with strong demonstrated safety involvement.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 construction standards, especially fall protection, ladders, and electrical safety.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction card (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Ability to coach and correct crews respectfully and hold the line under pressure.
  • Comfortable with digital documentation — mobile inspection apps, photo documentation, and basic reporting.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record; ability to travel approximately 50% of the time throughout Florida and Georgia.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), STSC, or OHST certification.
  • Hands-on solar installation experience (residential, C&I, or utility-scale).
  • Competent person designation for fall protection; NFPA 70E training.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
  • Aerial lift (MEWP) or equipment operator certification.
  • Associate's degree or coursework in Occupational Safety & Health or Construction Management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Primarily field-based across Florida and Georgia; approximately 50% travel, with future expansion into additional states.
  • Frequent climbing of ladders and access to rooftops and elevated work areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods; exposure to heat, cold, sun, dust, noise, and uneven terrain.
  • Consistent use of required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility apparel, and fall protection.
  • Occasional early start times, extended days, or after-hours response.

As part of our hiring process, we require all potential employees to undergo a drug test. We take the safety and well-being of our employees and customers very seriously, and believe that maintaining a drug-free workplace is essential. Therefore, we require all candidates to pass a drug screening before we can consider them for employment.
