The Safety and Support Specialist is a multifaceted role that involves maintaining a safe and secure environment, supporting outreach efforts to individuals experiencing homelessness, and providing transportation when required.

The role requires flexibility, situational awareness, and a compassionate approach to engaging with vulnerable populations. Individuals in this position play a key part in ensuring daily operations run smoothly while upholding the organization’s mission of service and dignity.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Security Officer 

  1. Monitor and ensure the security of premises and personnel
  2. Conduct regular patrols and inspections of facilities and grounds
  3. Conduct security checks and monitor security cameras
  4. Respond to crises and emergencies promptly
  5. Enforce company policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment
  6. Report and document incidents and safety concerns
  7. Collaborate with local law enforcement when necessary

Outreach Support Worker

  1. Assist program participants with accessing services and resources, including but not limited to showers, laundry, and mail services
  2. Perform outreach duties at different locations within the tri-county area as needed
  3. Engage with community members to provide support, resources, and information
  4. Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders

Driver (as needed)

  1. Safely operate company vehicles to transport program participants, materials, or equipment
  2. Transport company trailers to various locations for outreach operations as needed
  3. Conduct vehicle inspections and maintenance checks as needed
  4. Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance activities
  5. Assist with loading and unloading of materials or equipment as needed

Requirements


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant certifications or higher education is a plus
  • Proven experience in security, driving, or outreach roles preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Class D Security license
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to handle stressful situations effectively
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and tasks

Preferences 

  • Experience in working with the homeless population

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds 
  • Ability to stand, walk, sprint, run, and patrol for extended periods 
  • Must hear and see well (either naturally or with correction)
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead
  • A considerable amount of time making repetitive motions
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interactions with customers
  • Ability to function with frequent temperature changes between indoors and out
  • Work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain
  • Stand and walk continuously for up to 8-10 hours during a shift while providing customer care
  • Considerable amount of time using a telephone and computer
  • Sit at a desk and use a computer for extended periods to perform data entry and

administrative tasks

  • Answer phone calls and communicate with colleagues and clients verbally throughout

the day

  • Use hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment, such as printers

and scanners

  • Use hands and fingers for precise mouse movements and keyboard shortcuts
  • Review and analyze printed materials for accuracy and quality
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with team members in various office settings
  • Collaborate with colleagues and communicate professionally in person and via email
  • Sit at a workstation and use a computer to respond to customer inquiries and resolve

issues

  • Use a headset to communicate with customers over the phone for extended periods
  • Navigate between multiple software systems to access customer information
  • Occasionally stand and walk within the office to consult with supervisors or assist

colleagues

  • Attend meetings and collaborate with team members when needed
