JOB TITLE: Safeguarding Coordinator   TEAM/PROGRAMME: POD LOCATION: Nuwakot   GRADE: 3 CONTRACT TYPE: 6 months with possible of extension   Child Safeguarding Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post holder may require having a regular contact with or access to children or young people because the position holder works in the implementation of the country programme and are visiting programme frequently.

he Safeguarding Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that safeguarding is fully integrated across all aspects of the emergency response. The role will provide technical guidance, monitoring, and capacity strengthening to ensure that children and communities participating in or affected by humanitarian programmes are protected from abuse, exploitation, neglect, harassment, and other forms of harm.

The position will ensure safeguarding policies, procedures, reporting mechanisms, and risk mitigation measures are effectively implemented across all emergency programmes, including relief distributions, Temporary Learning Centres (TLCs), Child-Friendly Spaces (CFSs), health and nutrition interventions, cash and food assistance, shelter programmes, community engagement activities, and partner-led interventions.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Implementation of Safeguarding policies and procedures:

  • Ensure safeguarding policies, procedures and standards are applied throughout the field office.
  • Ensure safeguarding mechanisms are in place at field office and are subject to continuous monitoring and review.
  • Work collaboratively with other units to improve safeguarding risk management.
  • Liaise with Safeguarding Manager in documenting and sharing lesson learnt process for safeguarding in humanitarian context and programs.
  • Identify potential tools and approaches to develop a more effective way of working within the humanitarian context from safeguarding lens.
  • Ensure safeguarding is prioritized in field level staff meeting and key programmatic discussions.

 

 

Capacity building and awareness

  • Deliver training and capacity building sessions for staff and partners on safeguarding as required.
  • Develop tailored safeguarding capacity building materials in coordination with Safeguarding Manager for the relevant departments at the field offices.
  • Support Safeguarding Manager in efforts to improve awareness and engagement in developing safeguarding focused communication materials and strategies. 
  • Promote awareness of safeguarding and reporting mechanisms during distributions and community outreach activities.

 

Safe Programming

  • Ensure safeguarding risks are understood and effectively managed by programs, departments and units in the field office.
  • Identify potential risks to children and adults we work with in all the project activities including, with program teams to plan mitigating measures.
  • Ensure safeguarding approaches is mainstreamed through program planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Conduct regular safeguarding risk assessments across emergency response activities and operational sites.
  • Ensure safeguarding mechanisms are in place at field offices and programme locations and are subject to continuous monitoring, review, and improvement.
  • Ensure child and adult safeguarding considerations are integrated into all relief distributions and humanitarian assistance activities.
  • Monitor distribution sites to ensure they are safe, accessible, inclusive, and free from exploitation, abuse, discrimination, and harassment.
  • Conduct regular safeguarding monitoring visits to TLCs, CFSs, and other child-centred interventions.

 

 

Safer partnership

  • Develop and implement plan to mainstream safeguarding standards with partner organizations in coordination with Safeguarding Manager, field operations head and partnership lead.
  • Work closely with partner organizations to develop and implement safeguarding procedures and identify their needs to strengthen their system and mechanism.
  • Deliver trainings on safeguarding for partner staff with a focus on safe programming and humanitarian context.

 

 

Safeguarding Reporting and Response

  • Ensure timely reporting of cases to HR, SG & IT Director, Safeguarding Manager and on Datix.
  • Support Safeguarding Manager in managing safeguarding and investigations, including follow up in recommendations execution.
  • Ensure that safeguarding concerns are managed safely, effectively and confidentially to required standards. 
  • Ensure complaints, concerns, and allegations arising from distribution activities are appropriately managed and referred.
  • Coordinate with the Feedback Mechanism and Reporting (FRM) Officer for all activities related to safeguarding and safer programming. 

 


Counter Fraud and Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Take all necessary and appropriate steps to prevent abuse, exploitation, neglect, harm and modern slavery within their areas of responsibility, and in the way they conduct themselves, report and respond to all incidents and concerns whether online or in person, and comply with the Safeguarding Policy and Procedure.
  • Take all necessary and appropriate steps to prevent fraud, bribery, and corruption within their areas of responsibility, report and respond to all incidents and concerns and comply with the Counter-Fraud, Bribery and Corruption Policy and Procedure. All types of fraud, bribery, and corruption must be prevented, including where it benefits the organisation (SCI).

QUALIFICATION:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ (2 years for GSI) experience in safeguarding, child protection programming

    or related areas with the master’s degree in social science or relevant areas or 5 years ( 3 years for GSI group) of experience in safeguarding, child protection programming with bachelor’s degree in social science or relevant areas


 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

 

  • Strong technical expertise in food security, livelihoods, and market-based programming
  • Experience coordinating with government authorities, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, and partner organizations.
  • Strong experience in assessments, analysis, reporting, and information management.
  • Knowledge of international child protection frameworks, safeguarding standards, and humanitarian principles.
  • Ability to travel extensively to flood-affected and remote locations.
  • Fluency in English and Nepali, both written and spoken
  • Ability to collect and verify information under tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SCI in particular, a good understanding of the SCI mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
  • Ability to establish good working relationships and positively contribute to a team
  • Ability to work in a stressful and changing environment with limited resources
