We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly organized Staff Development Nurse/Infection Preventionist to join our leadership team. This key position is responsible for coordinating staff education and training programs while leading our Infection Prevention and Control Program to ensure the highest standards of resident care, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Position Summary

The Staff Development Nurse/Infection Preventionist is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating educational and competency-based training programs for nursing staff and other team members. This leadership role serves as the facility's Infection Preventionist, overseeing infection surveillance, prevention initiatives, outbreak management, staff education, and regulatory compliance. The position partners closely with clinical leadership to promote quality outcomes, survey readiness, resident safety, and evidence-based practices while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Long-Term Care or Skilled Nursing experience is required for this position. Candidates without skilled nursing or long-term care experience will not be considered.

 Essential Responsibilities

 Staff Development

  • Coordinate facility orientation programs for new hires.
  • Develop and conduct ongoing education and in-service training for nursing staff and interdisciplinary departments.
  • Assess staff competency and ensure training requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee education, certifications, and competencies.
  • Assist department managers with performance improvement initiatives.
  • Identify educational needs based on quality measures, audits, surveys, and clinical outcomes.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practices and clinical excellence.

 Infection Prevention

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Conduct infection surveillance and track healthcare-associated infections.
  • Monitor antibiotic stewardship initiatives.
  • Investigate, document, and report infection outbreaks in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Educate staff on infection control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation procedures, and outbreak response.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, health departments, and facility leadership regarding infection control concerns.
  • Maintain compliance with CDC, CMS, OSHA, and state regulatory guidelines.

 Leadership & Compliance

  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Assist during state surveys and regulatory inspections.
  • Conduct clinical audits and follow-up education as needed.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and facility leadership.
  • Support a culture of resident-centered care and staff engagement.

 Qualifications Required:

  • Current RN license in good standing.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Long-Term Care/Skilled Nursing Facility required.
  • Experience with staff education, staff development, or clinical training.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Strong understanding of CMS regulations, state survey processes, and LTC clinical operations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and teaching skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications.

 Preferred:

  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Previous experience as a Staff Development Coordinator, Nurse Educator, Unit Manager, or Infection Preventionist in a skilled nursing facility.
  • Experience with QAPI, antibiotic stewardship, and survey preparedness.

Annual salary range is $80.000- $85,000.

Skills Required
