Role and Responsibilities 

Under the direction of the department manager, the Clinical Educator is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating an organized program across the footprint, for staff orientation and ongoing continuing education, directed toward the achievement of professional excellence and regulatory compliance. Works collaboratively with the department manager to provide standardized, effective, and efficient education across the footprint. Serves as the primary contact person for professional staff orientation. 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Organize and oversee orientation for new field- and office-based staff. 
  • Support the development of continuing education of clinical and paraprofessional staff. 
  • Continually evaluate program effectiveness and relevancy.  
  • Participate in the development and teaching of classes/in-services hosted in person or through electronic learning management system. 
  • Organize and facilitate clinical competency testing. 
  • Assist in coordination of HCR Preceptor program.  
  • Perform co-visits with field staff as needed. 
  • Track staff requirements for in-service training.  
  • Provide or facilitate training in a variety of different formats to meet the needs of field staff.  
  • Work closely with LHCSA management and other agency personnel to coordinate home health aide education across services. 
  • Assist with the evaluation and organization of similar programs at branch offices as needed.  
  • Develop training materials for field and office staff using various training methods, techniques, and formats. 
  • Organize and maintain up-to-date educational materials for staff use and reference.    
  • Direct remedial training as identified by managerial staff. 
  • Standardization of patient educational materials. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements 

  • Graduate of accredited nursing (RN) program. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. 

 

Qualifications and Requirements 

  • Current, valid RN license issued by New York State Department of Education required. 
  • Minimum of one year of homecare experience required. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. 
  • Excellent customer service skills.  
  • Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations and Medicare/Medicaid Guidelines for home care. 
  • Knowledge in theories of teaching and principles of adult education (preferred). 
  • Ability and desire to serve as a role model.  
  • High level of OASIS knowledge and competence; Certificate for OASIS Specialist- Clinical (COS-C) preferable but not required. 
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication and strong organizational skills. 
  • Demonstrate ability to travel to HCR branch locations as needed. 

 

Work Environment 

The Clinical Educator is primarily in an office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions. 


The working conditions are classified as light work: 

  • Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work involves sitting most of the time.
