ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs all duties detailed in the RN-Staff nurse job description.
- Demonstrates expertise in clinical judgment and decision-making
- Maintains sound clinical knowledge based on current standards of practice for area of accountability
- Promotes a collaborative multidisciplinary plan of care
- Validates effectiveness of assignments and appropriateness of nurse to patient ratios and staff skill level
- Develops the delegation skills of staff
- Leads or provides input for department meetings/committees
- Communicates and measures compliance with department, hospital, and personnel policies
- Coaches staff to meet and maintain professional responsibilities through verbal feedback and documents
- Role models and mentors staff for improved performance
- Facilitates staff accountability to complete unit specific job duties
- Provides input toward staff performance
- Detects patient/family concerns, legal/ethical issues through rounding
- Demonstrates effective multi-tasking when dealing with difficult aspects of patient care
- Flexes/adjusts resources to promote cost effective and safe patient utilization
- Collaborates with medical staff to promote progressive patient care and discharge planning
- Provides constructive feedback and follow up to staff in challenging situations
- Promotes unit based teambuilding activities
- Identifies unacceptable staff behaviors, intervenes within scope of expected responsibility and monitors behavioral improvement plans
- Promotes and role models a positive attitude and accountability to staff
- Participates in development of policies, procedures, and practice standards
- Monitors and investigates unit risk events
- Encourages staff involvement in shared governance
- Mentors, develops and trains new staff and students.
- Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Serves a population newborn through geriatric.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Completion of specific unit based and general hospital competencies.
- Ability to apply the basic principles of nursing.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Keyboarding skills and basic computer skills.
- Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Graduate of nursing program.
- Experience as a practicing RN.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BSN is strongly preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.
- Healthcare Provider BLS through the AHA or ARC required within 30 days of hire.

Skills Required
- Graduate of a nursing program
- Experience as a practicing Registered Nurse
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Kansas
- Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 30 days of hire
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
