The Team You Will Join
The Risk function within MetLife Europe helps the organization to identify, aggregate, measure, report, and manage risks across the company. It is led by the Chief Risk Officer ('CRO'), with a Central Team (in Dublin), and local teams operating in the branches across Europe, including Cyprus. Central teams are responsible for Enterprise Risk Management and Risk Analytics, Governance, and Reporting while the local teams focus on operational and business risks.
The Opportunity
The Risk Manager's role is to manage, oversee, and develop operational risk management for the Cyprus Branch. The Risk Manager will work with the General Manager and the Management team to ensure that operational risks are appropriately identified, measured, managed, and reported across the company. The Risk Manager will be hands-on, driving the work and coordinating effectively within the branch. In addition, the Risk Manager will be required to provide support to the MetLife Europe Head of Operational Risk and the Chief Risk Officer as and when required for Central risk activities.
How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
- Facilitate the identification, measurement, management and monitoring of risks within the business; supporting an open and transparent risk culture and facilitate reporting to the General Manager and Senior Management
- Business partner to the Cypriot Management team, the first line of defence departments, Compliance, and Internal Audit.
- Chair the monthly Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee (RACC), providing appropriate challenge to Senior Management.
- Agree the RACC meeting agenda in advance with the General Manager and Central Risk Team; and ensure papers are circulated in advance.
- Ensure RACC meeting minutes and actions are recorded and approved at subsequent meetings.
- Manage the day-to-day risk management processes and procedures in the branch in accordance with MetLife Europe's policies and processes.
- Enable branch management to execute the MetLife Europe Risk Management Framework, by providing training to risk owners and risk champions and by challenging and reviewing risk assessments regularly.
- Facilitate the monthly risk event reporting process and challenge the control environment.
- Manage the Non-Financial Risk Assessment process by supporting and challenging the First Line of Defence in the assessment of their risks and controls.
- Complete control validation reviews.
- Arrange the monthly Branch Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee.
- Promote the effective communication and rollout of MetLife Europe's risk management policies.
- Support the Head of Operational Risk and Chief Risk Officer as in when required in coordinating aspects relating to the Risk Management Framework.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- Knowledge of the principles, fundamentals, and techniques of operational risk management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- University degree in a relevant field
- Confident and enthusiastic self-starter
- Skilled at building effective business relationships with a willingness to challenge and influence others at all levels of the organisation.
- Minimum of 3-4 years' experience in financial services (Risk and Protection/Insurance Company)
- Time management and prioritization skills. Ability to work unsupervised, to meet deadlines and produce deliverables for top-management use.
- Presentation skills, including preparation of communication materials for different audiences.
- Strong computer skills with experience with systems that capture and analysis information, and support management information.
