Environmental Health and SafetyUnder the direction of the Environmental Health and Safety Officer, the Specialist develops, implements, and monitors programs that reduce institutional liability, promote workplace safety, support emergency preparedness, and safeguard University assets. Risk Management Administration
Serve as the University's primary operational contact for the Louisiana Office of Risk Management (ORM).
Coordinate the administration of property, casualty, automobile, general liability, workers' compensation, and other risk-related programs administered through ORM.
Ensure compliance with all applicable ORM policies, procedures, reporting requirements, and state regulations.
Review incidents, losses, and claims to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain comprehensive claim and incident records for regulatory, audit, legal, and institutional purposes.
Prepare and submit required reports, documentation, and statistical analyses to ORM and University leadership.
Coordinate annual insurance and risk-program renewals as required.
Claims Management and Incident Investigation
Coordinate the reporting, documentation, and investigation of property losses, vehicle accidents, injuries, liability claims, and other incidents.
Serve as liaison among ORM representatives, University departments, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, insurers, third-party administrators, and claimants.
Assist departments in gathering documentation required for claim submission and resolution.
Track recovery funds, reimbursements, and settlements resulting from claims activity.
Maintain claim files and supporting documentation in accordance with record retention requirements.
Analyze claims data and develop recommendations to reduce future losses.
Loss Prevention and Compliance
Assist with development, implementation, and maintenance of university loss prevention programs and related policies.
Coordinate periodic facility and operational risk assessments.
Assist departments in addressing ORM recommendations and corrective action plans.
Participate in internal and external audits related to risk management and safety compliance.
Review contracts, leases, and agreements for insurance and risk transfer requirements consistent with ORM and University standards.
Safety and Training Programs
Coordinate and facilitate training programs related to risk management and loss prevention, including:
Driver Safety
Accident Investigation
Hazard Communication
Bloodborne Pathogens
Emergency Preparedness
Watercraft/Vessel Safety (if applicable)
Laboratory Safety Awareness
Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
Support safety awareness campaigns through newsletters, presentations, websites, and educational materials.
Assist with quarterly and annual safety committee activities and reporting.
Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Support
Support emergency preparedness, continuity of operations, and disaster recovery initiatives.
Participate in emergency response planning and incident management activities.
Assist with post-incident documentation, reporting, and recovery efforts.
Serve as a resource to departments during emergency situations and campus disruptions.
Other Duties
Assist the Environmental Health and Safety Officer with special projects, investigations, and compliance initiatives.
Participate on University committees relating to safety, risk management, emergency management, and compliance.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Safety Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Public Administration, Insurance, Emergency Management, or a related field.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, insurance administration, occupational safety, claims management, compliance, emergency management, or a related field.
Desired Qualifications
Advanced degree.
Experience working within Louisiana state government, higher education, healthcare, or other public-sector environments.
Experience working directly with the Louisiana Office of Risk Management.
Knowledge of Louisiana state risk management and insurance programs.
Professional certifications such as:
Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
Certified Risk Manager (CRM)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
FEMA Emergency Management certifications
