About the RoleAs a Senior Analyst – Onboarding Risk, you will own the end-to-end onboarding fraud and risk function across all of Aspora's geographies (US, UK, UAE, India, EU) and products (cross-border remittances, wallet services, Aspora-powered cards). You will be responsible for ensuring that only legitimate customers enter the Aspora ecosystem while maintaining a seamless onboarding experience.
This role sits at the intersection of compliance, fraud prevention, and customer experience. You will design, monitor, and continuously improve KYC/AML screening workflows, duplicate account detection systems, and risk-based onboarding decision frameworks — directly impacting Aspora's regulatory posture and fraud loss exposure from Day 0 of the customer lifecycle.
What You'll DoKYC & Identity Verification
Own the full KYC verification lifecycle: document verification, biometric matching, data validation, and identity verification level assignment (Basic, Standard, Enhanced) across all jurisdictions
Define and tune verification thresholds (document quality >80%, face match confidence >85%) and manage vendor performance (Persona, UIDAI, NIRA, credit bureaus)
Drive re-KYC programs for existing customers based on risk tier (annual for high-risk, biennial for medium, triennial for low-risk)
AML Screening
Manage end-to-end AML screening: sanctions (OFAC, UN, EU, UK HMT, national lists), PEP identification, adverse media monitoring, and watchlist management
Own false positive management and whitelist maintenance; ensure daily watchlist updates trigger automatic re-screening of the existing customer base
Design and enforce Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) workflows for PEP customers, high-risk geographies (FATF grey-listed countries), and high-risk occupations
Duplicate Account & Fraud Detection
Own the de-duplication framework: fuzzy matching (Jaro-Winkler 85%+ threshold), biometric deduplication, and cross-referencing of funding sources across accounts
Build and refine onboarding fraud scoring models incorporating email domain risk (15%), phone risk (10%), IP/geolocation (15%), device fingerprint (15%), velocity triggers (20%), and document anomalies (25%)
Detect synthetic identities, identity theft, and bot-driven account creation through device fingerprinting, behavioral analysis, and external fraud databases (Emailage, SEON, IPQualityScore)
Onboarding TATs & Decision Management
Monitor and improve onboarding turnaround times — targeting <24 hours average, with SLAs of 24 hours for standard manual reviews and 48 hours for complex cases
Own decision outcomes (auto-approve, manual review, reject, escalate) and ensure rejection communications are compliant without enabling fraud intelligence leakage
Manage the operations review queue, triage logic, and escalation paths (L1 Analyst → L2 Manager → L3 Compliance Officer → L4 Executive)
Regulatory Compliance & Audit Readiness
Ensure onboarding workflows comply with FinCEN CDD Rule (US), FCA JMLSG guidance (UK), CBUAE AML regulations (UAE), and RBI KYC Master Direction (India)
Maintain audit-ready documentation: decision logs, risk scores, approval rationale, and Record of Identity (ROI) per jurisdiction
Own data retention compliance for KYC records (5 years post account closure) and coordinate with legal on geographic restrictions and prohibited customer types
Cross-Module Coordination
Pass customer risk ratings and monitoring triggers downstream to the Transaction Risk module
Ingest blocklist updates and fraud pattern intelligence from the Reporting & Remediation module to continuously tighten onboarding rules
Collaborate with Product and Engineering on onboarding funnel optimization, balancing friction reduction with risk controls
3–5 years of experience in KYC/AML operations, onboarding risk, or fraud prevention at a fintech, neobank, payments company, or regulated financial institution
Strong skill set around Agentic AI and LLM modelling
Hands-on experience with sanctions screening (OFAC, UN, EU lists), PEP identification, and adverse media monitoring across multiple jurisdictions
Strong understanding of identity verification technologies: document OCR/MRZ validation, biometric liveness detection, and device fingerprinting
Experience building or tuning fraud scoring models and risk-based decision frameworks for customer onboarding
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements across at least two of: US (BSA/FinCEN), UK (FCA/JMLSG), UAE (CBUAE), India (RBI KYC Direction)
Analytical mindset with ability to work with data — comfortable with SQL, Excel, and risk analytics tools
Strong ownership mentality and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
Experience with cross-border remittance or multi-corridor payment products
Familiarity with KYC/AML vendors (Persona, SumSub, Sardine, Onfido, ComplyAdvantage)
CAMS, CFE, or equivalent compliance/fraud certification
Experience with Jaro-Winkler or similar fuzzy matching algorithms for deduplication at scale
Background in building or improving onboarding automation and straight-through processing rates
Exposure to multi-geo regulatory environments and data residency requirements
