Summary/Job Purpose:
The Risk Engineering Manager is responsible to contribute to corporate goals of growth and profitability through the active participation in the account acquisition and retention process. Manages a team of multiline or property field engineers to ensure work performed, completed and submitted is quality controlled to the highest standards. Manager will ensure that production goals and turnaround time on reports of his staff meet or exceed established goals. Complete joint field visits with the field engineers to provide quality control and guidance to improve their overall working skills. Manages the subcontractor process in assigning work, ensuring due dates are met and quality control of reports to ensure the highest quality report is provided to both our Underwriting partner and the external client where applicable. Collaborates with the management team regularly and provides critical input to ensure the success of the team and the company. Establishes focused risk improvement process by ensuring the field engineers are establishing service plans on large accounts that are focused on key loss sources and ensuring the engineer is maintaining and following through with all outlined service plan goals.
Essential Functions:
- Manages a team of multiline and/or property field engineers to ensure all work is completed and submitted adhering to the highest quality control standards. Ensures that production goals and turnaround time on staff reports meet or exceed established goals. Completes visits with the field engineers to provide quality control and guidance to improve overall working skills.
- Collaborates with the management regularly and provides critical input to ensure the success of the team and the company. Focuses on the risk improvement process by ensuring the field engineers are establishing service plans on large accounts that are focused on key loss sources and maintaining and following through with all outlined service plan goals. Secures specialty service quotes for Industrial Hygiene, large chemical property risks and Ergonomics to secure the lowest quote with the most qualified subcontractor.
- Partners with the Director of Risk Engineering to select subcontractors and manages their work.
- Ensures due dates are met and the highest quality report is provided to the Underwriting partner and the external client, where applicable.
- Actively participates in monthly Underwriting meetings and provides recommendation compliance reports. On multi-location accounts ensures that all sites receive consistent service to satisfy corporate client expectations. Promotes the effective use of loss data systems to ensure that accurate information is captured and supports client risk management efforts. Promotes Risk Engineering services to the producer community and prospective accounts in order to write new business.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages a staff of 5 in the Risk Engineering Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and Experience Required:
Diploma/Degree & Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree from a four year college or university is required.
- 7 -10 years of insurance and general industry loss prevention experience is required.
- 3-5 years of previous supervision or management experience.
- Experience should include working knowledge of sprinkler plan reviews, Life Safety Codes (NFPA 101), NFPA 13 and Factory Mutual guidelines.
- Strong experience in assessing complex risks including chemical and automotive industry related along with moderate to large sized industrial or warehousing operations
Compensation: The anticipated salary range for this position is $175,000 to $190,000, based on relevant experience, skills, and overall qualifications.
