Position Summary:

The Rigging Operations Manager position serves as a key operational leader within our rigging organization and partners closely with project management, field supervision, safety, sales, and executive leadership to support safe and successful project execution. The position provides leadership and support to a team consisting of 90+ field personnel who help drive daily field operations and execution.

The ideal candidate would possess a strong background in rigging operations, crane and lifting activities, field leadership, workforce planning, and customer-facing problem solving. Experience with NCCCO certifications, Lift Director responsibilities, crane operations, advanced rigging, and large project execution would be beneficial. However, we are also interested in speaking with individuals who have demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, operational aptitude, and a desire to continue growing their technical expertise and management responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate with sales as needed on job walks and assist with customer bids/estimates to accurately price projects.
  • Responsible for all activities of the rigging operation from job site management to dispatching of crews. 
  • Develops, plans and implements schedules for rigging crew in alignment with customer direction.
  • Directs workforce to meet operational goals in terms of volume, cost, quality, safety and schedule. 
  • Directly supervises one or more superintendents, foreman, leads and dispatcher.
  • Hire, coach, train and manage the performance of rigging crew with best management practices.
  • Develop, train and instruct rigging crews in best known rigging operation practices and procedures including safety.
  • Work closely with safety personnel in coordinating safety training, accident and injury investigations and reporting and equipment or property damage incidents investigations and reporting.
  • Build customer and employee relationships with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Develop highly effective relationships with customers, business partners, crating operations management and support staff.
  • Effectively manage job site projects by organizing all project information to ensure they are accurate and contain all necessary information. 
  • May participate in selection of company vehicles and asset rigging equipment. 
  • Purchase and upkeep of the day to day rigging equipment and hand tools.
  • Develop programs to monitor and promote vehicle maintenance, driving safety, and to control operating costs.
  • Actively participate in MEI R & C leadership and management meetings.
  • Consistently demonstrates professional conduct representative of MEI corporate mission, vision and values. 
  • Consistently gain knowledge regarding industry and market information and trends.
  • Work closely with the sales team to manage customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.
  • Develops professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Local travel required for client site meetings and management of dispatched crews.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):

  • HS diploma or equivalent with continuing education in Business, Project or Construction Management or related degree a plus.
  • Minimum eight (8) years proven operations management experience or comparable field preferably within the construction, manufacturing or rigging industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, management, supervisory and project management skills.
  • Highly self-directed and motivated.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Applications and other business software (such as Wright Plan/CRM) as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This is physical, hands-on work. Must be able to perform General Physical Activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and activities requiring moving the whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, or crouching. May regularly lift items up to 80 pounds. Frequently uses senses involving sight, smell, touch, and auditory. May work off the ground at varying heights; must not be affected by flashing lights, noise, or moving machinery. May perform occasional work in a warehouse or non-temperature-controlled environment and/or outdoors over uneven terrain or with exposure to inclement weather.
