A Day in the Life:
The Revenue Cycle Accountant plays a critical role in managing the financial aspects of the revenue cycle, from billing through to payment collection. This position ensures accurate and timely recording of revenue, billing activities, and financial reporting. The role works closely with the RevOps team to ensure that revenue is recognized properly, accounts are reconciled, and financial operations are compliant with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Revenue Recognition: Ensure accurate recognition of revenue in compliance with accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606), including reviewing contracts, billing terms, and payment receipts.
- Billing & Collections: Oversee the billing process, ensuring that all charges are captured, processed, and billed to the client directly or using Vendor Management Systems.
- Reconciliation: Reconcile revenue accounts, including accounts receivable, to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of payments, adjustments, and outstanding balances.
- Payment Posting & Allocation: Post payments to the appropriate accounts, ensuring proper allocation according to client contracts and agreements.
- Aging Reports: Track and analyze aging reports to ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables and assist in identifying opportunities for improving collections.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, focusing on revenue cycle performance and key metrics (e.g., days in AR, cash collections).
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with relevant laws, industry standards and organizational policies related to billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
- Audit Support: Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries related to revenue cycle activities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to streamline revenue cycle processes, resolve discrepancies, and improve the overall efficiency of revenue collection.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement within the revenue cycle, making recommendations to improve operational efficiencies and enhance financial performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with changes accounting standards to ensure that the company’s revenue cycle practices remain compliant.
What it takes:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in revenue cycle management, accounting
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Netsuite, Open Air) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, especially in billing and reconciliation tasks.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with internal teams and clients.
