The Role: 

The Revenue Accountant is a hands-on member of Cart.com's Revenue Accounting team with primary responsibility for customer cash application, accounts receivable, collections support, reconciliations, and related month-end close activities. This role works within established procedures and policies, escalates complex issues as needed, and partners with Billing, Treasury, Sales, and Customer Service to keep customer accounts accurate and current.


What You'll Do:

Daily Tasks

  • Apply and post customer payments from checks, EFTs, lockbox receipts, credit cards, and other payment methods, and update the accounts receivable ledger.
  • Monitor unapplied cash and short payments; investigate differences and clear routine exceptions.

Collections & Customer Management

  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on overdue accounts by phone and email.
  • Assist with and monitor payment plans and collection activities.
  • Work customer disputes and deductions; research and help resolve reasons for nonpayment.
  • Issue customer statements and aging reports.
  • Respond to customer payment inquiries and resolve basic account issues.
  • Process and document customer credits in accordance with established approval procedures.

Month-End Close Activities

  • Prepare and reconcile assigned accounts receivable accounts.
  • Reconcile unapplied cash, accounts receivable adjustments, and deferred revenue balances related to billing.
  • Calculate and post routine revenue-related entries or adjustments when accounts receivable activity affects revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and post bad debt expense entries and write-offs in accordance with company policy.
  • Provide schedules and supporting documentation for month-end close and audit requests.

Process, Systems & Internal Controls

  • Maintain accounts receivable master data, including customer accounts, billing terms, and contract terms.
  • Follow and support internal controls over invoicing, approvals, and cash handling.
  • Assist with configuration, documentation, and maintenance of accounts receivable processes in the ERP system.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work with Sales and Customer Service to resolve disputes and align billing with customer contracts and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with Treasury on cash handling, payment research, and banking issues.

Ad Hoc Tasks

  • Assist with account reconciliations, intercompany accounts receivable matters, and special projects, including process improvement and automation.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end audits and SOX control testing as needed.

Who You Are:

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with a consistent focus on accuracy and timely follow-through.
  • Comfortable performing high-volume transactional work while investigating exceptions.
  • Able to communicate professionally with customers and internal partners by phone and email.
  • Willing to learn Cart.com's systems, accounting processes, and revenue-related policies.
  • Able to follow established procedures, identify issues, and escalate more complex matters appropriately.

What You've Done:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in accounts receivable, cash application, collections, billing, or general accounting.
  • Experience applying customer payments, researching account differences, and reconciling accounts.
  • Experience supporting month-end close through journal entries, reconciliations, or supporting schedules.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, lookups, filters, and reconciliations.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in eCommerce, logistics, fulfillment, SaaS, or technology-enabled services.
  • Experience with Business Central (Dynamics 365), NetSuite, or a similar ERP system.
  • Exposure to revenue recognition, deferred revenue, SOX controls, or audit support.
  • Experience with process improvement or accounting automation.

Skills Required

  • 2–5+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant revenue accounting focus
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 and U.S. GAAP revenue recognition
  • Experience reviewing customer contracts and documenting accounting conclusions for complex revenue arrangements
  • Strong audit experience in public accounting and/or corporate accounting environments
  • Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close deliverables, and supporting schedules
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze and reconcile large datasets
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience in eCommerce, marketplace, logistics, fulfillment, SaaS, or technology-enabled services
  • Experience supporting multiple revenue streams or complex customer arrangements
  • Experience with Business Central, Dynamics 365, or similar ERP systems
  • Experience with process transformation or accounting automation initiatives
  • Experience with IPO readiness, private equity-backed organizations, or high-growth environments
  • CPA certification
  • Public accounting experience, including Big Four or large regional firm experience
