The Responsible Pharmacist will oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy and act as the designated qualified professional responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable South African legislation, regulations, and quality requirements. This includes activities governed by laws and regulations relating to pharmaceutical operations, clinical trials of medicinal products, and internationally recognized standards, including Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a local depot strategy outlining objectives for the handling, storage, labeling, and delivery of medicinal products and medical devices.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of applicable legislation and national requirements to support the Quality Management System for medicinal products and resolve warehouse-related quality control issues.
• Monitor communications from regulatory authorities to identify products or materials subject to recall.
• Provide relevant information to local authorities regarding substandard medicines and coordinate recall activities as required.
• Monitor compliance with GxP guidelines, ISO 9001:2015, internal quality documents—including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and Standard Forms (SFs)—and applicable national legislation.
• Maintain SOPs and WIs to ensure they remain current and aligned with applicable South African legislation.
• Oversee pest control activities and review and approve all related reports and documentation.
• Provide consultation and methodological support to operational personnel on Warehouse Management System updates.
• Oversee the practical application of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and ensure personnel exercise due diligence during all updates and implementations.
• Review and approve checklists and other documentation related to project activities.
• Supervise and participate in key operational processes, including inbound and outbound activities, storage, returns handling, destruction, and re-labelling.
• Manage inventory control for medicinal products, including periodic expiry-date checks.
• Ensure accurate and appropriate recording of medicinal products received into and dispatched from the warehouse.
• Monitor storage conditions for medicinal products to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
• Support procurement requests where applicable.
• Complete and maintain personal training records in the Electronic Quality Management System (e-QMS).

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) or equivalent pharmaceutical qualification.
• Registered as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Minimum of 4 to 5 years' relevant experience in pharmacy operations.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience serving as a Responsible Pharmacist.
• Strong knowledge of wholesale pharmacy operations, quality management systems, and pharmaceutical quality assurance principles.
• Sound understanding of South African pharmaceutical legislation, regulations, and guidelines governing pharmacy and healthcare operations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of GxP requirements, Good Distribution Practice (GDP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and applicable quality standards.
• Up-to-date knowledge of healthcare legislation and regulatory requirements issued by relevant health authorities and governing bodies.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other computerized pharmacy and warehouse management systems.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret, analyze, and report on operational and financial data.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and manage multiple priorities in a regulated environment.

Skills Required
