The Responsible Investing Data & Technology Associate will support the Responsible Investing team by developing, maintaining and enhancing ESG data tools, dashboards, reporting resources and investment research outputs. The role will work closely with investment teams, Responsible Investing leadership, risk and reporting stakeholders, data science and GTO partners, and ESG data vendors to help integrate ESG insights into investment, stewardship, regulatory and reporting workflows.
This position is suited for an associate with strong analytical, technical and communication skills, a demonstrated interest in responsible investing, and the ability to use data, technology and AI-enabled tools to improve team processes and deliver actionable insights.
ESG Data, Reporting and Operational Support
The Associate will provide day-to-day support for Responsible Investing regulatory-related monitoring and analysis, including assessments of issuers for trade eligibility under EU SFDR and portfolios with purpose frameworks. Responsibilities include maintaining issuer and portfolio analysis resources (e.g., power BI dashboards), monitoring/assessing Good Governance, Do No Significant Harm and Sustainable Theme status flags, and supporting ESMA naming-rule exclusion analysis, including PAB and CTB indicators.
Investment Research and Analytics
The Associate will help develop investment-relevant quantitative ESG research for portfolio managers, fundamental analysts and quantitative analysts. This includes building ESG factor backtests and developing practical interpretation guidance for investment use cases.
The role will also support the RI Research team’s thematic research. This may include but is not limited to research on Climate Transition, Physical climate risk, Biodiversity (particularly water risks/opportunities) and Responsible AI (including implications to labor force, critical minerals, energy consumption and data ethics). The Associate’s focus will be on translating thematic research outcomes into sector-level investment implications. Outputs should be communicated through clear, decision-oriented summaries, visualizations, reproducible code and supporting documentation.
ESG Tools, Dashboards and Workflow Automation
The Associate will help manage and enhance proprietary ESG tools, dashboards and datasets used across Responsible Investing and investment teams. Responsibilities include creating and improving Power BI resources for issuer lookups, ESG monitoring and portfolio risk views; supporting ESIGHT 2.0 adoption through training materials, guidance and outreach; and helping with engagement prioritization.
The role will also identify opportunities to automate recurring workflows, including thematic assessment/engagement frameworks (such as modern slavery, climate transition, and biodiversity ), ESIGHT data/engagement uploads, SFDR monitoring, research delivery and other data-intensive Responsible Investing processes. The Associate should be comfortable applying AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, CoPilot or CoPilot Studio to improve workflows and team productivity.
The Associate will work with IT to create prompt abilities summarizing company/portfolio level ESG characteristics across different investment SBUs.
Stewardship, Engagement and Ad Hoc Support
The Associate will support engagement and stewardship activities by helping prepare supporting materials and improve the quality, consistency and usability of engagement documentation.
The role may also include providing ad hoc analysis of portfolios, indices or other data sets to support the RI team’s projects – e.g., for internal committee meeting materials.
Vendor, Data and Stakeholder Coordination
The Associate will develop a strong working knowledge of ESG data providers (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, Bloomber, CDP), tools and platforms in order to obtain, analyze and synthesize data for ESG research projects and deliverables. The role will involve liaising with and evaluating ESG data vendors and helping the team assess available datasets, data quality, integration opportunities and vendor solutions.
