This position is part of the Financial Lines Reserving team supporting a diverse portfolio of specialty coverages, including Directors & Officers, Errors & Omissions, Employment Practices Liability, Cyber, and Fidelity/Crime.
Financial Lines offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in complex products, emerging risks, and evolving claim trends. In this role, you will partner closely with Claims and Pricing to monitor portfolio performance, evaluate reserve adequacy, and provide insights that inform business decisions.

** Please note, candidates pursuing exams as well as those not pursuing exams will be considered for this role. This role can be part of our Actuarial Student Program for an individual meeting requirements for entry into the program. **
Responsibilities
Complete reserve studies and advise management on reserve decisions, including providing insight into key drivers of change.
Develop and maintain monitoring tools such as actual loss vs expectation and reserving diagnostics.
Partner closely with Claims to develop insights and inform reserve decisions.
Analyze portfolio performance, emerging claim trends, and significant loss activity to inform reserve decisions and business strategy.
Drive improvements in data quality, portfolio monitoring, and actuarial processes through innovative solutions, effective controls, governance, and ongoing process enhancements.
Experience & Skills
Bachelor’s degree required.
Near to recent ACAS preferred. Candidates with Actuarial experience not pursuing exams may be considered.
Minimum 4+ years of Property and Casualty actuarial experience; reserving experience preferred.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply sound actuarial judgment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analyses into business insights.
Driven, intellectually curious, resourceful, and creative; able to learn new concepts and business areas quickly.
Proactive individual who demonstrates ownership, partners effectively across functions, and continuously seeks opportunities to improve processes and analytical capabilities.
Strong Excel skills required. Experience with SQL, VBA, R, Python, or similar coding languages a plus.
Location:
This role can have a hybrid work arrangement (Tuesday – Thursday in office) in hub offices located in Hartford CT, Chicago IL, Charlotte NC, or Columbus OH.
Candidates who do not live near one of these office locations may be considered for a remote work arrangement with occasional travel.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$96,000 - $169,800The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
