About the Opportunity
You will join Ericsson Research and lead the Device Communication Research team in Lund. The team explores future device modem and RF technologies for 5G evolution and 6G, with a focus on how devices communicate, sense, compute, and interact with future networks.
The team consists of highly skilled researchers and industrial PhD students with strong competence in device modem technologies, RF implementation, sensing, connectivity, and intelligent compute. The work combines long-term research with practical implementation, prototypes, intellectual property, standards support, and collaboration within Ericsson research programs as well as external research partners.

What You Will Do
As Research Manager for Device Communication Research, you will:
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of researchers, engineers, and industrial PhD students working on future device communication technologies.• Shape and drive the research agenda for device technologies across 5G evolution, 6G, sensing, IoT, XR, device compute and energy efficiency.• Turn early ideas into strong research outcomes, including intellectual property, prototypes, concept demonstrations, technical insights, and contributions to future technology directions.• Build and maintain collaborations across Ericsson Research, product organizations, academia, industrial PhD programs, and external research projects.• Balance long-term research vision with practical execution, ensuring that the team delivers high-impact results while continuing to grow its competence and innovation capacity.• Create an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment where people can contribute, learn, and develop.
The Skills You Bring
• PhD or MSc with strong research background in a relevant area such as wireless communications, device technologies, modem/RF aspects, sensing, IoT, XR, or a closely related technical field.• Experience from leading research, technology development, innovation activities, or advanced engineering work, preferably in an industrial research environment.• A genuine interest in people leadership, including coaching, developing talent, setting direction, and creating a team environment where experts collaborate effectively.• Strategic mindset with the ability to connect research topics to Ericsson's long-term technology direction, business relevance, intellectual property, and standardization trends.• Collaborative way of working and confidence in leading through influence across organizations, technical disciplines, and external partnerships.• A proven ability to drive innovation and patent creation, both through your own technical ideas and by coaching a team culture where researchers actively identify and develop innovation opportunities.• Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to make complex technical topics clear, relevant, and actionable for different audiences.
