Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Research Bone Densitometry Technologist - Boca Raton, FL.

The Division of Research supports and promotes Florida Atlantic research, creative and scholarly activities by providing faculty tools and resources to be competitive, setting strategic directions in research, ensuring responsible research practices and communicating the importance of research within and beyond the university.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Generates quality control records, each morning before performing a test on a participant or a minimum of once a week if the scanner is not being used, to maintain state radiation safety certification.

  • Prepares participants for procedures by explaining procedure processes, answering their questions, and coordinating schedule issues.

  • Screens participants according to the clinic’s SOPs and performs scans safely

  • Oversees maintenance of densitometer, computer equipment and participant records. Works with company trainers and repair personnel regarding equipment and software problems

  • Prepares and submits invoices to the Principal Investigators (PIs) and/or appropriate University core

  • Communicates with university and outside physicians regarding capabilities of equipment, reports, etc.

  • Makes recommendations to investigators concerning the proper use of densitometry for their studies

  • Coordinates with pharmaceutical companies on the specifics of protocols and recordkeeping as appropriate. Meets with investigators, company monitors, etc.

  • Conducts scans using the knowledge and performance of systematic deviations from established clinical protocols

  • Maintains accurate and complete research records

  • Ensures the proper maintenance and cleanliness of the DXA machine and/or room; maintains stocks and supplies

  • Submits raw data to PIs for interpretation.

  • Assists with clinic activities such as responding to participants’ questions as well as assisting a research nurse and study coordinators with scheduling and performance of research densitometry studies.

  • Assists the Director of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) with administrative tasks, such as ordering supplies and performing a monthly unit inventory, to support the department

  • Undergoes intensive research training to learn the research process, which will include training on active and current research studies. Some study-specific tasks may include scheduling and consenting participants and performing visit procedures (e.g. simple cognitive testing, filling out questionnaires, documentation on paper and in REDCap)

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization or an associate's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization required.
Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Florida required
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Registration in Bone Densitometry preferred

Salary:

$28.00 - $40.00 per hour.
