Research Assistant (26270107)

The Academy of Geography, Sociology and International Studies, would like to seek applicants for Research Assistant with a strong interest in researching tourism and Chinese nationalism. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Principal Investigator on the research projects related to tourism and Chinese nationalism;
  • Analyse online source material using Little Red Book (小红书) for data collection;
  • Collect data using text mining tools;
  • Analyse a large corpus of text data using machine learning, sentiment analysis, LLM, etc;
  • Code major themes from collected data either manually or through automated tools;
  • Perform literature reviews with a focus on innovations in big data analysis; and
  • Collaborate on papers, with potential for co-authorship.

Requirements:

  • Possess a bachelor's or advanced degree in social science, digital humanities, communications, or a quantitative field;
  • Strong research background, as evidenced in written papers, conference presentations or formal publications;
  • Possess qualitative and quantitative analytical capability and effective communication skills;
  • Good command of written English and Chinese; and

It would be advantageous if you have knowledge of or interest in learning about:

  • Sociology of emotions and/or sentiment analysis;
  • Analysis of objects and digital images online;
  • Content analysis of social media, particularly Little Red Book (小红书);
  • Tourism in China or Asia; or
  • Nationalism and political emotions

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of six months to one year with the possibility of extension.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Skills Required
