We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant in the area of damage modeling of large-scale composite structures. Our research focuses on developing predictive numerical tools for structural integrity assessment of composite structures.
You will contribute to cutting-edge research in computational mechanics and structural digitalization, working closely with ongoing projects on advanced finite element (FE) modeling, structural damage evolution, and data-driven analysis of large-scale engineering systems.
Responsibilities and qualifications
As a Research Assistant, you will:

  • Develop and implement advanced finite element (FE) models for composite structures 
  • Apply scientific programming in MATLAB and/or Python for model development and automation 
  • Develop and apply web scraping techniques to collect and structure relevant engineering or materials data from public databases and online sources 
  • Development of simple graphical user interfaces (GUI) for research tools and workflows 
  • Document results and contribute to scientific publications and internal reports 

We expect that you:

  • Have a strong background in finite element analysis (FEA), preferably in composite materials and structures
  • Are proficient in MATLAB and/or Python for scientific computing and tool development 
  • Have familiarity with web scraping techniques for structured data acquisition
  • (Optional but advantageous) Have experience with GUI development 
  • Work independently, structured, and enjoy problem-solving in a research environment

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. 
The period of employment is 1 year.

Skills Required

  • Master's degree in engineering or equivalent
