Purpose: India has committed to a net-zero target by 2070, with imminent ambitious decarbonisation targets by 2030. Simultaneously, we need to create ~90 million non-farm jobs by 2030. There is both a need and potential for climate action to generate a large number of jobs and fuel economic growth. To realise the full potential of the emerging green industries and value chains at pace, we need to develop supporting business ecosystems around them at an accelerated pace. 

CEEW is generating data and evidence on the jobs and economic potential of various emerging green value chains across sectors such as energy transition, circular economy, bioeconomy, and nature-based solutions. We are also launching a “Green Economy Accelerator” (GEA) that can help accelerate various emerging green industries and value chains and rapidly unlock their economic, employment, and environmental potential. 

We are currently in the program design and set-up phase and are seeking to hire a ‘Research Analyst’ to support the initiative. A suitable candidate for the position would support team’s ongoing efforts:

● Conducting primary and secondary research towards creating various materials needed for the overall programme (e.g., concept notes, onboarding guides, basic informational guides, introductory presentations, workshop materials and any other messaging needs) 

● Contributing towards the overall programme design, including ways to strengthen/refine existing ideas, anticipating and catering to needs of various stakeholders, identifying opportunities / channels for communication on the programme etc. 

● Staying open to evolving roles and responsibilities as the programme evolves 

In addition to the duties and responsibilities below, the individual should be prepared, as and when necessary, to take on additional responsibilities. 

Job duties and accountabilities 

Research 

This includes, but not limited to (i) framing the research questions, (ii) identifying the target audiences (states, industries, ministries, CSOs), (iii) developing the research strategy, (iv) conducting literature review, (v) collecting data/insights from primary sources, if needed, (vi) performing any necessary analysis (quantitative and qualitative), 

Stay updated on industry/market trends, technological advancements, and best practices in entrepreneurship and innovation, key stakeholders(individuals/organisations) in any relevant areas for the program 

● Travel (within India), whenever necessary, to conduct/support meetings or collect primary information. 

Data Collection and Documentation: 

● Prepare detailed analytical reports and presentations for stakeholders, summarising findings and recommendations which could be circulated among industry bodies, and state and central government officials. 

● Develop any guidelines or formats that may be needed for any stage of the program including any processes/guides for systematic data collection via surveys, interviews, feedback forms, and any other primary/secondary research required 

Stakeholder Collaboration: 

● Collaborate closely with the program team, mentors, and external team members to ensure alignment between program expectations and outcomes. 

● Support the team in designing and facilitating training sessions for anchors on data collection, analysis, ecosystem/system-scale modelling, and performance measurement. 

● Participate in regular team meetings to share learnings and get inputs for ongoing program development. 

Programme Assistance 

● Support the development of overall programme strategy and its effective implementation ● Establish, manage, and promote relationship with existing and potential partners ● Support on fundraising activities 

● Lead/contribute to the strategic outreach of the outputs through engagement with a broader network of industry, policymakers and other stakeholders 

● Mentor consultants/interns reporting to you, as required.

● Lead/support team/institution building at CEEW 

Selection Criteria 

Qualification 

● Strong academic credentials, preferably a Master’s degree with specialisation in fields relevant to business, finance, and/or development sector. Knowledge/qualifications in environment/sustainability will be an advantage. 

● Understanding of India’s business ecosystem, especially from a start-up/SME perspective ● Experience in engaging senior stakeholders (business and/or policy context) will be essential ● Experience with applying Systems thinking/Systems dynamics approaches to problem solving will be an advantage 

● Strong analytical abilities and familiarity with primary and secondary research methods ● Effective oral and written communication skills in English 

● Proficiency in word-processing, presentation, and data analysis tools 

Work experience 

● 2-4 years’ of relevant research/business analysis experience 

● Industry experience in conducting research and analysis (in policy, as business/investment analyst etc) 

● Proven track record of delivering high quality written content for different media. ● Experience in working with the entrepreneurial ecosystem will be an advantage, as an entrepreneur or with incubators/accelerators 

● Exposure to the investment space will be nice to have 

● Exposure to the development sector, rural management will be nice to have. 

Key skills 

● Sharp and analytical mind with a willingness to explore new research areas, learn new research and project management skills. 

● Ability to navigate ambiguous and abstract concepts, and an ability to quickly grasp complex subject matter will be essential 

● Ability to adapt and deliver under tight deadlines in a professional environment. ● Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output.

Skills Required
